I haven’t yet recieved mine, it’s supposed to come next week in the mail. None of these questions are “too nosy”. I do have a problem with how short this is however, I don’t think they’re asking enough questions. The census is used to of course figure out how many people live in the country. Once that info is recieved, they use it for re-disricting representatives, figuring out where federal $$$ are needed etc.

I personally am not concerned with a former chamber president being on the city council or being mayor. It probably is beneficial in many ways.

I DO have a problem with developers being on the city council or being mayor. I can see many conflicts of interest with this situation.

Why so much concern over the Chamber? These folks are attempting to market the community and work with the residents and government.
We need to focus our attention as residents to development issues and fees/tax increases like water,sewer rates.
We need to look at what Brandon will look like in 5 years.

The tinfoil hats are a little tight people. Without development and business growing in Brandon, there is no money for parks or a new swimming pool that everyone seems to whine about on here. And heaven forbid someone with actual experience budgeting and making a payroll was actually in government.

How about the problems that could arise with the past president of the chamber being a council member. Like all of the funds that the city gives to the chamber, and that the city is reviewing the lease on the chamber building.

It would be hard to predict who-all might develop in Brandon in the future, but I get your point. If a city councilor has ties to a developer, it might be a conflict of interest.

Brandon is still small enough that councilors could easily have to deal with issues that involve their neighbors, people they go to church with, people who have kids who go to school with their kids, and the like. It’d be sort of difficult to avoid that, I’d think.

But I suspect you are referring to closer business ties. If a councilor, or a councilor candidate, has regular business dealings with a regular developer, that could cause problems – at least the appearance of a conflict.

It helps when councilors and candidates use full disclosure and say up front what dealings they have that might affect their council decisions. Then the public knows and can make informed opinions.

I know someone who has friends in Chile. Luckily, the friends are OK, but thousands more in Chile aren’t.

I personally do not know Barb or Bob. One question I would ask is that with the recent questions being raised about the city paying for the chamber and food pantry’s rent or utilities, I hope we don’t get into a conflict of interest. They both know and support the chamber, does this mean that the chamber will be asking for more from the city????

Did I mention you would be on the front line, Oh yes you said your against it, there again whoever wishes to smoke should be able to where ever they wish as well as the ones who dont. Thats called {thier rights}, if a person leaves things alone they have a way of working thierselves out on thier on. If people would hold to this the world would be a good place to live, or at least here in the U.S.A.

Why not rotate this one smokers go out side, next day smokers stay inside, non-smokers go outside. either way its fare, and should not be denied by no means. The smoker gets thier rights and non-smokers get thier rights. NO ONE should suffer to please someone else, when the space is the smokers as well.

Personally I live in ward 1, and don’t really care who runs for council or mayor as long as they listen to the people and not go on their own agenda after getting voted in.

I can not think of two better people for any type of leadership position in Brandon. Barb has been involved in school organizations, church groups and the Chamber. She has great financial experience and will listen to her constituents. Bob has business ownership experience, has his ear to the ground and gets things done. They are not only Chamber members, they are involved citizens and residents of Brandon. I think it would be great to have council people that can represent both residents and businesses. Having council representation that actually work in Brandon is optimal. They will both understand that what they do will be paid for by Brandon businesses and residents. Vote for Barb Fish and Bob Bruning!

I think it is fine that former chamber presidents/members run for city council. They are probably some of the best candidates as they are committed to our city and are obviously leaders! Why in the world would anyone even question them running?

Should not make a difference if they were past presidents of the chamber. They are Brandon citizens. They have every right to run for city council, mayor, etc. At least they are interested in making Brandon a better place to live and work. I don’t see a long line of other willing candidates!
