Copied here from the sidewalk blog as requested. Background…there was a call last week that Medstar was “unavailable” for. They were in Sioux Falls with a call.

Rural Metro no longer has a contract with the city of Brandon, how is it they can come here? Is there a signed agreement at city hall? So in reality we have a licensed service that didn’t respond to a 911 call and an unlicensed one that did?

What would have happened if Rural Metro couldn’t have covered for MedStar? What if they had been with their own calls? How can the service we HIRED be UNAVAILABLE, we are talking about 911 service aren’t we?

Where were the FOUR other MedStar rigs??

What would have happened had it have been 3 teenagers on their way to school with all three seriously injured?

When you are in the 911 emergency ambulance business you don’t get to say you’re unavailable. Unless we have a city/countywide DISASTER. (which we didn’t) Medstar and the city got lucky this time….what about next time?

Giving directions to someone from out of town, you really need to specify Main St. or main drag. Business on Main Street seem to have taken up the locale advertising “on Old Main”. I like the idea of having an historic main street. It seems the VFW has ALWAYS been the VFW, and city hall has always been there.

THANK YOU #3. Are developers putting in sidewalks to the new neighborhoods? If so, is it feasible for the city to regulate that sidewalks be added to all neighborhoods, maybe as part of a city-wide improvement plan? If homeowners decided to put in their own sidewalks, it seems like that would be asking for alot of inconsistency. I remember back when…the uproar was who was going to pay for the street paving. I grew in the only house that was on our block, but I can’t remember who paid for, or what the split was.

I re read the blog about SIDEWALKS several times and never found the mention of ambulance. If you will look directly to the left of your responces there is a list and on this list there is a catagory that says AMBULANCE. Try posting there.

I like biographies, and will be glad to check out the books for sale. I think we can learn a lot about ourselves, our history, and our society by studying those who have gone before us. Gathering from our forebearers’ experiences seems like a wise way to try to avoid duplicating some of their worldly foibles.

I live very close to these apartments, and drive by them daily. It is great to see someone using their resources to clean the area up. I emailed the company thanking them for cleaning up my neighborhood. But, I too, am concerned about future tenants. Previous tenants I think have many neighbors concerned. I have 2 small children & there are many other children in the neighborhood. Previously, is was normal to see a registered sex offender “staying” there, but not registered there, run down cars, etc. This is a wonderful neighborhood in Brandon, and I hope the new tenants will add to this area.

Approaching the building we saw a building plopped in a parking lot, no view from any side. Okay I guess if you’re going to spend the night drinking, not okay if you want to have a meal and nice atmosphere.

Our expectations were that of a restaurant because that is what the owners proposed when trying to get their variance.

Menu choices were basic pizza, wings, burgers. Was a little surprised at that. Again I guess we expected more restaurant type food such as pasta, steaks etc.

Ordered 1 cheeseburger/fries and 1 baconburger/fries. Inquired about what came on the burgers and was told plain unless ordered deluxe. Ordered one deluxe.

Took approximately 15-20 for order to arrive. Food came in paper baskets, not on plates. Side of mayo was in foil squeeze packets. Deluxe came with a tomato slice that looked good, a core end piece of lettuce that wasn’t edible, a few thin sliced onions and 2 paper thin sliced round pickles. The burger was large with an ungrilled sesame seed bun. It was unseasoned and definitely seemed to be a frozen mass produced patty. The fries shoestring cut and a bit overdone so they were dry and also were under salted.

There was absolutely nothing special in the taste or presentation of the food. I left disappointed. I guess it depends on what you’re looking for.If you want a place to get some food while having beers after the races it’s okay I guess. If you’re looking for a restaurant that serves a tasty menu and concentrates on the food, this won’t be for you.

Our wedding was held in Brandon and the reception/dance at the Legion in Valley Springs. When traveling to the Legion, our wedding party vehicles nearly ended up in the parade! We celebrate our 26th Anniversary today, so yes there is romance involved with Booster Days!

It really depends on what they pay. You can’t buy a new house in Brandon if the top earner makes 15 an hour. The long term plan always calls for affordable housing to provide labor for the businesses (I guess that means apratments).

I graduated from BVHS with Jake. Who didn’t love him? Every memory I have of him is with a smile on his face. He knew how to make us all laugh and smile with him.

Jake was the most kind person I’ve ever known. I’ve never heard anyone ever talk bad about him. He was the kind of person who would be able to lighten the mood when it was down. I will miss him dearly.

Jake and I were in the same Boy Scout troop he and i both got our eagle scouts. I also went to school with him. I also bought many things and got much advise from him at true value. See ya again some day man. peace
