Activities center

There are some who say most of the items in the school district’s new plan are inevitable because of population growth. Some folks, however, question the necessity of an indoor activities center.
An activities center could bring income to the school. Could bigger gyms mean more ticket sales? I’d like to see some estimates of how much extra money sporting events might bring to the district if an activities center were built.

I can’t answer any of your questions, but I’d like to know where the current money from ticket sales goes. I didn’t think it was the general school fund, but I went to school a long time ago in another state.

i think its an excellent idea. the only suggestion i would have to the school board is more lighting around the entries of the bldg..i’ve seen large groups of kids gathered in circles and you cant see what they are doing. I just dont think its safe. Not to mention they shut down half the back parking lot lights at night, i’m sure this might save energy cost’s but at what price to safety? You would think those lights should be on even at 3am, I was not comfortable with my daughter coming home late at night from an out of town sports activity because she would be parked close to the Football field. Poor lighting in the parking lot makes easy target. Self defense 101 says park in a well lit area. impossible to do during the day to ensure your safety at night..am i the only parent who’s thought about this??

It’s crazy to raise taxes for the 75% of the people in the district who (a) have no kids in school or (b)don’t live in Brandon. It’s fine just the way it is. This is not Hollywood. Let’s spend our money on getting all the kids able to be proficient for NCLB.
