Bedtimes

When I was a kid, we had very strict bedtimes. I remember having to go to bed right in the middle of the Red Skelton show each week. Sometimes it was right in the middle of a Freddy the Freeloader sketch. I never did see how those ended.
Even in high school, I had to go to bed right after Johnny Carson’s monologue.
My brother always had the same bedtime as me, even though he was a year younger. I thought that was unfair.
Do kids have a strict bedtime at your house? What time is it? How do you determine it? Do all your kids have to go to bed at the same time, or do the older ones get to stay up longer?

The problem I’m running into is that I’m the strictest parent out of all my daughter’s friends. So I am constantly hearing about how unfair I am that my daughter, 12, has to go to bed at 9 when her friends can stay up to 10 or even 11 on a school night.

If my kids don’t want to follow their bed-time rules, they are allowed to get up & going at 5:30 am — when I do. It usually gets them back in line.

My kids are 11 and 14. They have a 9 o’clock bedtime on school nights. They are usually asleep by 9:10, so I don’t think it’s unfair. They stay up until 10 on weekends and summer nights. They both have the same bedtime - avoids arguements. It’s been 9 for a long time. Summer was always the hardest - nobody wants to go to bed until it’s dark.

My little ones start the war at 8 and usually are sleaping by 9. My eleven year old has the rule of Shower at nine and go to bed. So some nights he is in bed by 9:15 and others closer to 10. But he get’s up with no complaints at 6:30. And if he is whiny after school I tell him to take a nap and he usually does. LOL!
On weekends we stay pretty close to the 8 for the girls. but my 11 year old can stay up as late as he wants as long as he is quiet. He wakes them up and hes a dead kid walking. Everyone gets to sleep in on the weekends during the week we all get up at 6:30.
