Boiling point

June 11th, 2008 by Alica

It’s time for the new bar-grill-casino, 212 Degrees – The Boiling Point, to open.

The former Sneakers is open with a new name and a new look, in a new location in Splitrock Square. Family Floors & Furniture is going to expand into the old Sneakers spot in the Brandon Plaza.

The zoning of the new location was controversial, with several neighbors objecting to a bar locating close to their homes. But now that it’s opening, will you patronize the new eatery? Did you patronize Sneakers?

Don’t forget the WINGS! Better than BW3’s in my opinion! Flavors ranging from BBQ to Smoking HOT!! My daughter was away at college and couldn’t wait to get home to eat their pizza! This is definitely a place to bring your family! And then meet up with friends later for a fun night out. Mark and Katie and the entire staff always greet you with a genuine smile and friendly hello! And you don’t have to sit there for a minimum of 10 minutes before you are even aknowleged like at the place up the road….come on..you all know where I am talking about!

I’m always for a new restaurant in town - driving into SF is a hassle and with gas prices is no longer an expense that can be ignored. The reviews so far look great - we’ll try it out.

β€œIt goes back to the conflict,” Fonder said, and a motivational video that talks about turning it up a degree to the boiling point.

The expanded menu will offer a variety of sandwiches, salads, sides and daily lunch specials.

Sandwiches???? Thought this was more of a resturant than bar?
Real great taste in changing the name, just to rub it into the citizens that were fighting for their homes.

    Restaurants can’t serve sandwiches????

Non-smoking environment — sounds like a great place to me.

#9…Shutup buddy, Why beat a dead horse over a name..There is alot of other names I would have named it to rub in their face.. Maybe the residents at the corner of holly/sioux should take notes and keep their mouths shut, and let the city expand.
We ate at 212 last night and it was great! I dont see this bar/grill getting out of control with noise and drunks..My kids enjoyed it and the food was great. I think they need to expand the parking just a little. But other then that 5 stars!!!

  12. The Name Is Lame Says:

I agree with #9 about the name. I think naming an establishment over the conflict is bad taste. All that does is piss off the people who were against it, and it makes the owners look immature.

All that said, I think the facility is top notch and it is a good addition to Brandon. Very nice.

I personally was there when Mark and Katie were throwing around ideas for the name of the new bar. The name was picked for inspiration not malicious intent! Quit trying to put a negative spin on a very positive establishment! Congrats Mark and Katie wish you much success. Thank you! Brandon NEEDS you!

Let’s put the zoning fight on the back burner. It never was an issue with with Mark and Katie. It was an issue on how the laws seems to be circumvented or ignored for certain people and how the council disregards the zoning board. It will be remembered again at next year’s election.
I’m sure Mark and Katie read this blog. I always thought of Sneaker’s as a bar. Should I look at the new place as an eatery during the day and a bar at night? Sort of like an Applebee’s without the steaks (hint)? What niche do you hope to fit?

  16. anon Says:

Business’ will try to fit whichever niche will get them what they want. It’s word semantics.

Is 70% of the business liquor and 30% wings and pizza? IF so, that’s bar food, not a restaurant.

    Semantics.

  17. wallywyo Says:

Stopped in last night for supper with some friends. I was impressed with what is looks like inside. They did a very good job. Also so nice to be in a non-smoking place. Wed is 40 cent wings so we tried some of those and they were pretty good.

I suggest the big Nacho plate could use some work. It was a weak presentation. ;-) Get them out of the basket and onto one of your serving plates — more chips, meat, cheese and other toppings and maybe less lettuce…. just a thought.

  18. Serious!? Says:

#16…I suggest you check out their new menu! Much more than wings and pizza there! Soups, salads and variety of burgers and sandwiches!

  19. anon Says:

    Serious,
If you noticed it was a question not a statement. And I do plan on checking it out.

  20. Unsure About 212 Says:

I took my family over for a meal, and the atmosphere was great. The food needed a little work though. The burger patty didn’t seem to be as good as they used to be, and we had a very bad experience with our wings. They came out with very little sauce, and when we bit into the first couple wings we hit blood. We sent them back and to our surprise they just stuck them back in the grease. That didn’t get the insides done very well, but it turned the outsides a crusty, dry black. We asked for some more sauce so they wouldn’t be so dry; and when it came out we poured it on the wings. Oops, turns out the sauce was very cold - so now we had cold, burnt, soggy wings. Hopefully turning a modest establishment into an enterprise with lots of different employees and higher traffic doesn’t cause it to lose the personal touch we used to relish at Sneakers.

  21. anon Says:

Went recently. Had 2 kinds of wings. They were pretty tasty, but definitely on the small side comparatively. As far as the owners claim of this being more restaurant than bar….don’t buy it. It’s definitely a bar. I counted 14 large screen TV’s tuned to sports….cant’ sell that as a restaurant sorry. It’s a far cry from the dump of a building it was in and the non smoking is nice. Seems kind of “dumped” on a parking lot though. Not pleasing from the outside. If it would’ve been my money (which it wasn’t) I would’ve found a better location that had the capability of a patio and nice surroundings instead of fighting for this location.

  22. restaurant critique Says:

Approaching the building we saw a building plopped in a parking lot, no view from any side. Okay I guess if you’re going to spend the night drinking, not okay if you want to have a meal and nice atmosphere.

Our expectations were that of a restaurant because that is what the owners proposed when trying to get their variance.

Menu choices were basic pizza, wings, burgers. Was a little surprised at that. Again I guess we expected more restaurant type food such as pasta, steaks etc.

Ordered 1 cheeseburger/fries and 1 baconburger/fries. Inquired about what came on the burgers and was told plain unless ordered deluxe. Ordered one deluxe.

Took approximately 15-20 for order to arrive. Food came in paper baskets, not on plates. Side of mayo was in foil squeeze packets. Deluxe came with a tomato slice that looked good, a core end piece of lettuce that wasn’t edible, a few thin sliced onions and 2 paper thin sliced round pickles. The burger was large with an ungrilled sesame seed bun. It was unseasoned and definitely seemed to be a frozen mass produced patty. The fries shoestring cut and a bit overdone so they were dry and also were under salted.

There was absolutely nothing special in the taste or presentation of the food. I left disappointed. I guess it depends on what you’re looking for.If you want a place to get some food while having beers after the races it’s okay I guess. If you’re looking for a restaurant that serves a tasty menu and concentrates on the food, this won’t be for you.
