Brandon skyline

January 30th, 2007 by Alica

Well, what do you think of the changing skyline of Holly Boulevard? The new Taco John’s building is pretty well done, and the new bank building is coming along nicely. It’s a lot bigger than the gas station that used to be there. Closer to the street too, I think. So there isn’t as good a view on that corner as before. What do you think?

Same with the new part of Brandon Lutheran Church. That new addition makes the original church look almost tiny in comparison. And it sure looks different to see a big building there instead of a big lawn.

And down the road, at The Bluffs, there is construction going on. What is that going to be? Apartments? Town houses? Whatever is going up looks like the back side is going to face Holly Boulevard, or Rice Street. I’m not sure what the road is called at that point. I hope what we’re seeing there isn’t going to be the backs of long rows of garages. That isn’t much fun to look at every morning on the way to work. At least the homes in The Bluffs are nice to look at. I especially liked seeing all the Christmas lights on them in the evenings. But it looks like that view will soon be obscured.

What do you think of the architecture of these new buildings? Too big? Too small? Too fancy? Not fancy enough? Too bright? Too dull? Or maybe you think they’re all just right.

I rather like the way the old TO Haas building has shaped up. Taco John’s and the bank are OK, but I’m not very fond of the new Lutheran Church. I’ll be interested to see the inside when it’s done, but I’m not impressed so far. The buildings going up at the Bluffs are apartments, but I don’t know if that’s the back of the garages or not.

I think Taco John’s and the bank have turned out very nicely. I like the look of the buildings– much classier than what was there previously. The church looks like it will be nice, but does seem “imposing” so close to the street. Maybe that’s just because it is new and we are not used to it.
