PIERRE - Take a walk with Harry Buck through the halls of the state capitol
and you’ll find he knows people. A lot of them.

Buck represents Ward II on the Brandon City Council and is here today
cheerleading for his town at Brandon Day at the Legislature, an event
spearheaded by the Brandon Valley Area Chamber of Commerce.

“I’ve just been around for a long time,” Buck said of his apparent
popularity. Buck used to serve on the South Dakota Corn Growers Association
board and currently serves on the board of the state soybean growers
association.

At one point during his voyage to see former co-alderman Steve Kolbeck, who
now sits on the Public Utilities Commission, he gave Teddi Mueller his
realtor’s card and encouraged her to look at moving her family to Brandon.
Mueller is a lobbyist for the corn growers.

“We like to tell people Sioux Falls is that town six miles west of Brandon,”
Buck joked, referring to the fact that many people know Brandon as a
satellite town of Sioux Falls.

After 30 minutes of perusing his way to the capitol’s first floor, Buck
found Kolbeck’s new digs. Kolbeck recently left the council for the PUC
position. Bob Serk filled Kolbeck’s empty council chair.

Kolbeck said while he misses the Brandon community, he’s loving his new job
and looks forward to when his family relocates to Pierre.
