Cedar Street apartments

June 9th, 2008 by Alica

After more than a year of sitting empty, a new owner has taken over the Cedar Street apartments and is fixing them up. They should be ready to occupy within a few weeks and will rent for market value (as opposed to subsidized rent).

It’s always good when properties are occupied and kept up. Do you think the Cedar Street apartments are now getting the care they deserve? Will you recommend them to anyone who is looking for a place to live?

With the apartments refurbished and updated, they’ll surely contribute to a nice look in the neighborhood. Do you think the neighbors will appreciate that? What about the auto body shop and the repair shop across the street from the apartments? Will the new apartments blend with their end of the block?

Only time will tell. How did they get rid of all that mold so fast, just a quick fix patch job to get them occupied again?

  2. Advisor Says:

In the news article the developers stated that they had the apartments tested. They then used proper cleaning methods and replaced the sheetrock. They also said they wanted to do the job right. It sounds like they are making sure the mold will not be an issue in the future.

  3. A slum is a slum Says:

We have enough of these slums in Brandon, they should have torn it down and made a park or zoned it residential.

  10. An Alum Says:

The Brandon Community should be THRILLED that someone with “resources”, both knowledge and financial is willing to make these apartments a good place to call home.

  11. Anon Says:

Agreed #10. Why would anyone complain?

  12. english songbird Says:

#10 - also agreed. Otherwise, they (the apartments) would still be sitting empty, and then what…? Some people would bitch if ya hung ‘em with a new rope. Keeping the rent at market value will stop the “slum effect”

You can only put so much polish on a turd.

I personally am very thrilled someone is taking the time and effort into those apartments. There has been alot of different companies in there working, I believe they are putting the effort needed to make is a nice safe living environment. The new siding is nice, and I saw the what looked like a trailer full of old airconditioners, if they are replacing the heating and air conditioning that is another way to make sure the mold is gone (I would think anyways, Im sure I will be corrected if wrong)

And I aree with #12, they will stay in much better shape if kept at market value vs. low income. Ive lived in both, and there is a huge difference in the “type” of people that live in them.

I look forward to the change, the apartments have great potential for families just starting out.

I thank the persons involved in restoring the place.

Go look at the Brandon PD activity there the past couple of years. If they aren’t low income I will shut up, but alot of scum from SF came to Brandon to live there thinking they wouldn’t be noticed. WRONG Ask anyone who lives within a block of that place and they will tell you the same. Get ready Brandon PD!

I had a peepin tom in my back yard for a few months, and once they vacated those apartments my peeper was gone. The several times I called the PD they said that is where they thought the person was coming from, I guess they were right to bad they didnt catch him.

I guess You could say I am interested in seeing what happens when they become occupied, They have made some nice improvements, I hope it stays nice and they are occupied by folks that appreciate the work that was done to the place, and keep it nice.

  20. hopeful neighbor Says:

I live very close to these apartments, and drive by them daily. It is great to see someone using their resources to clean the area up. I emailed the company thanking them for cleaning up my neighborhood. But, I too, am concerned about future tenants. Previous tenants I think have many neighbors concerned. I have 2 small children & there are many other children in the neighborhood. Previously, is was normal to see a registered sex offender “staying” there, but not registered there, run down cars, etc. This is a wonderful neighborhood in Brandon, and I hope the new tenants will add to this area.
