Child care

July 12th, 2007 by Alica

Does Brandon have enough child care? When you are looking for daycare for your children, what amenities do you look for? Do you prefer a commercial child care facility, or do you look for in-home care?

Is it important to you that your provider is state registered/licensed, or is that not a priority?

What can child care providers in Brandon do to improve?

In my experience, day care providers have over promised and under delivered. I would like them to fulfill their promises.

I feel that Brandon could always have more quality daycares, especially home daycares. About the comment about daycare providers fulling their promises, I hope that this is the exception more than the rule. I know plenty of wonderful family daycare providers in this town who go above and beyond the call of duty! A lot of it comes down to asking the right questions when placing your child in daycare. these include:
    1) Are you registered thru the state (state registered daycares go thru background checks!)
    2) Are you on the food program? (They reimburse daycares for part of their food costs. In turn, the provider must serve nutritious meals and snacks.)
    2) How many children do you take care of?
    3) What the the child to adult ratio?
    4) What sort of disipline do you use?

I have done daycare for several years and am surprised at how many people do not ask these questions. They just want to know how much you charge and your hours. There is soooo much more that that. You are placing your most prized possession in the hands of someone else. Educate yourself before doing this!!
