Christmas shopping

How much of your Christmas shopping do you do in Brandon? Many Brandon businesses offer gift certificates. The Brandon Valley Area Chamber of Commerce offers Brandon Bucks, which can be used at any member business. Will you use those as stocking stuffers?
How much of your Christmas shopping do you do outside of Brandon? Is it for convenience, or because you are looking for items not offered in Brandon? Or some other reason?

We do very little if any in Brandon. The town has very little to offer, especially with electronics and clothes. We do alot of shopping online. Many sites offer free shipping, and there is usually no sales tax.

Brandon Bucks from the Chamber are great stocking stuffers. They make great gifts for teachers or the mailman or anyone else to whom you want to give a little something. And there are more than 100 businesses in Brandon that accept them, including many service businesses.
Your gift recipient might love a massage, pedicure, pet grooming, oil change, carpet cleaning or dance classes.
Have you considered thinking outside the box for gift ideas? Family Floors and Furniture has household pieces that match any decor. The RC Guy has all kinds of model car and airplane supplies. Oak Ridge Nursery has a selection of gifts, along with a wide variety of plants.
Do you have one of those people on your list who already has everything? Maybe they would like house cleaning or snow removal this winter. There are businesses in Brandon that do that.
Brandon has a lot to offer.

I rarely ever respond to anything, but I just have to say something to 4Ever in Brandon. I understand your concerns about a lack of clothing and electronics in Brandon. However, you seem to imply no sales tax is a good thing? How do you think your city operates? Sales tax. When you need a police officer? That’s sales tax at work. When you need your road repaired? That’s sales tax at work. When your streets get cleaned of snow? Sales tax. When you take your child to a park? Sales tax. Please consider this. Our city can’t maintain our community without those dollars. Taxes aren’t fun, but a part of life. I am willing to pay them as the price of living in a great community. Do I shop in Sioux Falls? Sure, sometimes. But if I have a choice, it’s Brandon because I need to support the community we call home. What is more important, saving a few dimes in sales tax, or keeping Brandon 4Ever a great place to live? Thanks for at least thinking it over.

#4, I understand what you’re saying, and we do support Brandon. We buy most of our groceries in Brandon, except for meat and seafood, where HyVee has a better selection. We buy our gas in Brandon. We eat at Tailgators, Sneakers, Pizza Ranch, Brandon Steakhouse and Subway. We patronize True Value and have a membership at Tryon Gym. We get our prescriptions at Lewis Brandon. And I agree with Alica that Brandon has some unique things. But you can’t buy clothes, shoes, electronics, jewelry or a hundred other things in Brandon, and like everyone else either have to shop online or in Sioux Falls, Minneapolis, Omaha or other places people go to shop. I believe in shopping at home if home offers what you need, and with that I pay my sales tax at home rather than somewhere else.
