City amenities

June 17th, 2008 by Alica

Do you golf? Do you swim? Do you play ball? Picnic? Bicycle?

Which, if any, of the city amenities do you use?

I have to admit, I do not golf. I’ve been to functions at the Brandon Municipal Golf Course clubhouse, but the only time I’ve been down on the greens is to photograph golfers for the newspaper.

Of course not all people use all the amenities the city offers. But which do you use? There is the swimming pool, the ball park, the bike trail, and several city parks. At McHardy Park, there is a fishing pier, picnic area, sledding hill and playground equipment.

Which park is your favorite? How often do you ride the bike path? How much use do you get out of city amenities? What other amenities would you like to see the city add?

Brandon is slowly adding/upgrading many of their ammenities. It all cost $$$ but I am glad something is being done. We have a long way to go though. I agree with the #1 comment, also the bike trails could be added onto. Our family has pretty much used all of the ammenities listed above. An indoor rec center would be fabulous.

Not sure if this comment really fits here but the entrances to Brandon are kinda embarrasing. It would be so lovely to have nice “entrance” markers to beautify our little town. I envision a brick marker with “Welcome to Brandon” and flowers planted around.

Regarding the “entrances” to Brandon….why doesn’t city hall enforce building rules? That huge apartment complex West of town is an embarrassment. Why can’t they make them finish the landscaping. I wouldn’t consider moving in there, it goes to show how well it’s going to be taken care of after you sign your lease.

    An indoor swiming pool facility.

I agree with #1 Even Valley Springs has somewhere for people to play basketball outside! I am tired of living in Brandon and having to go Valley or Sioux Falls.

I would like to see improvements made to the swimming pool. I would like to see something compareable to Terrace Park. I think improvements to the swimming pool would be very beneficial to our growing town.

There used to be basketball hoops at the tennis courts, which is now the skate park. The tennis/basketball players would somehow work out the court time. Are there hoops at the new tennis courts? Or at the school parking lots/playground areas?

Our family uses the parks…they all seem pretty nice if you want to picnic or just lounge & watch the kids play.

#1 — there are outside basketball hoops at Pioneer Park — I think there are 3 full-size.

    Kayla,
    PIONEER PARK!

  12. Aaron Says:

A wellness center with an indoor pool. Maybe a partnership with Tryon Gym could be made. Tryon needs to expand their facility anyway.

This came up before when it was decided that Pace Mfct if moving…what to do with that area? A wellness center seemed to be the most popular. Maybe a YWCA-Brandon?

I believe there are basketball hoops at Bennis Elem as well.

Good luck paying for the new pool. The city doesn’t want to. And all the lifeguards will not come back if we get a water park. tooo many rescues. oh, indoor pool? boring.
