Council candidates

So far, only two candidates have filed for city council terms that are opening this spring.
Incumbent John Saarloos in Ward I and Roger Brooks in Ward III have turned in petitions for four-year terms.
Blaine Jones in Ward I and Steve Rubin in Ward III have taken out petitions but haven’t filed them yet, as of Monday. Rubin already is on the council.
If nobody else files, there won’t even be an election. Saarloos and Brooks will automatically get the terms. And while they may or may not be the best candidates for the job, should a city the size of Brandon be governed by candidates who get the council seats by default?
The deadline to file petitions is Feb. 29, so Jones and Rubin still have time. So do any others who are interested in serving their city by running for a term on the council. Petitions are available at City Hall.
What are your thoughts on the candidates or potential candidates? What do you think about the number of people who have taken out petitions so far? What do you think about an election possibly being cancelled due to lack of candidates?
(No bashing, please. Be polite, even if you criticize.)

Is it not funny Alica, we have, I would guess about 250 people that participate in this blog and numerous others that read it daily yet only two file for the council. I truly hope John and Steve turn in their petitions as I feel the people should have a choice. Both being incumbents, in this persons mind have done a good job. Being on council is thankless and they have served this community well.

I would hope that Tople is running, he has been campaigning on this blog for months.

It is probably still pretty early yet for all of the candidates to have their petitions turned in. It seems there are always individuals that wait until the last day.
I do hope additional candidates step forward. Choice is always a good thing.

Based on all the bit#&$ng that goes on here you’d think that there would have been a few more petitions turned in. ATTENTION ALL ANONYMOUS POSTERS - Its put up or shut up time. Be a part of the process or just shut up.

Are you running Anonymous? Strange comment from someone who posts as an “anonymous” person. Do as I say, not as I do!!???…..

Hey #5 Let me help you out.
Irony - a pretense of ignorance and of willingness to learn from another assumed in order to make the other’s false conceptions conspicuous by adroit questioning.
Just making a point about the stupidity that passes for dialogue on this blog.

Thats funny… post #4 and #6 are the same person.

That is good #7. you might as well just put your name if you are going to leave your email address when you post. Would stupidity also be classified as those that try to remain anonymous but make their address public knowledge by putting in the wrong box while leaving a comment.

I think maybe #4 and #6 are the same person, At least they have the same E-Mail.(regry67yahoo.com). Goes to show you never really know who someone is.

has anyone heard the latest news?! There is a 3rd candidate that has a petition out now. I heard it was matt sawh! I think he would be an excellent candidate. He is very well spoken the times he was at the meetings and i hear he is taking guitar lesson’s with his daughter. So maybe btwn him and Kull they can start at city band? play on sunday’s in the park. oh wait! all the city money goes to the golf course instead of improving the parks. pity, i really enjoy listening to th pipes, and nothing beats a slamming guitar ( a real one) not the ones from guitar hero.
