Dancing with the staff

April 18th, 2008 by Alica

Thursday night, school teachers, administrators and staff paired up with students for a dance competition. It was well attended and the proceeds went to a worthy cause.

What do you think of teachers and students having a social relationship? Do you think it could affect their school relationship?

Alica — I like this thread…I don’t think there is anything negative that could be said about kids being active, teachers & staff being active with their students.

maybe the social relationship aspect could be controversial. However, it lets students & staff alike see the other side.

I think as long as the social relationship is at school or school functions… and in a group setting, it’s okay.

I imagine teachers know how to recognize when a student “has a crush” and also what to do about it.

I think if students feel they can relate to a teacher they are more likely to ask for help with coursework and more willing to work for that teacher.

i dont think there is anything wrong with this topic except for maybe the way it was worded. It sounds like you are looking for more than just the typical relationship between teacher and student. There are a lot of teachers that have nothing to do with students outside of the the classroom. Then there are those that have a personal relationship, which is what alot of students need. Your topic question makes it appear that it is wrong for any type of relationship outside of school. this was a great event and I don’t thinkyou could look at it and say it was inappropriate.

Perhaps I could have asked, “Where is the line where physical contact between a teacher and a student becomes inappropriate? Did this dance contest cross the line, in your opinion?”

Oh for crying out loud. This was an event done for fun and to raise money for a good cause. If students and staff dancing have you worried, then we sure better be worried about the coaches handing out towels in the showers.
