Deer on the road

December 14th, 2007 by Alica

It seems to me like I’ve seen more deer in the ditches and on the road this year than I ever have, especially on Rice Street between Sioux Falls and the Big Sioux River. Have you noticed more deer than usual also?

If so, why do you suppose that is? Are we developing their habitat into homes so much that they are coming out into the open more? Or are there just more of them this year than usual? Or are they getting used to people being around, so they are more bold about where they go?

I’ve never hit a deer, but I know several people who have. Have you ever hit a deer on the road?

My boyfriend and I had a VERY close call last night on Rice St by the Great Bear entrance! Please everyone, be very alert as it can happen in an instant. I have hit two deer (both on Rice) so I am super paranoid! Have a Happy and SAFE Holiday season.

This morning I saw a heard of deer on the south side of 60th St. N. just to the west of Timber line. I stopped and counted 40 even. I knew there were alot of deer in this particular area, but not that many.

Just drive up 60th street off of Timberline each morning around 7:30, you’ll see 50 or more deer, not including the bucks. They roam from I90 over past Great Bear daily. Keep your eyes open and speed down.
