Democratic primary

We are counting down the weeks until the South Dakota Democratic primary. A column in Monday’s Argus Leader said that no matter who wins, Hillary Clinton or Barak Obama, the state will still vote mostly Republican in the general election in November.
That may be true. The republican presidential candidate generally carries South Dakota. But still, the people registered Democrat in this state must make their choice for the Democratic ticket.
Who do you favor? Clinton or Obama? What does each have in their favor? What are the disadvantages of either?

I wish we had better, more honest people running. After Mr. Obama’s comments on small towns and all the other stuff coming out, I don’t think even now we know who he really is. I think he is trying to win on just fluff talk and bumper sticker comments, so he is out. And with Hillary, we all know what we are going to get with her, so I think I am going to sit the democratic primary out and for the first time since Ronald Reagan, I’m going to vote republican.

Get Real. That is ridiculous. “we don’t even know who he is”? give me a break. He has said one thing that people don’t like. Take all of the dumb things you have said in the last year and let’s make them public and see what happens. come on. I think these people are human and should be allowed to mess up. Look at George. He has been allowed to be human and mess up for 8 years. Is he who you thought he was?

Get real, ok, let’s get real. I also agree with #1. Let’s list the issues;
#1 Reverend Wright, 20 years in the church and anti-American comments.
#2 Ties to leader of the Weather Underground, American terrorist from the 70’s
#3 talking to Millionaires in San Fran and talking down Middle America, we are disgruntled and clinging to Religion and guns
#4 won’t wear an American Flag on his jacket.
#5 Tied to Renko, in Chicago.
#6 Marched in the Million man march.
#7 He is the most Liberal member of the US Senate.
#8 if he gets elected he will raise taxes to pay for his 1trillion dollars worth of Social Programs.
I think Obama, for the first time, is being asked questions. They are finally looking into his past. And I think this is just the tip of the Iceberg. I agree with #1, he was trying to get elected with bumper sticker platitudes and no substance. I am 60 year old, and this guy is farther left then McGovern, and trusts me, that really scare me. I have heard his speeches and yes he is a good speaker, but he is and was being packages and I see some people have fallen for his charisma, but he should not be President.

You forgot one #3.
#9 Every time he speaks he talks about the American people waiting for the Government to come in and make their lives better. The last time I checked, those were called welfare cases. The rest of us are too busy raising our families and going to work to worry about what the government is going to do for us. I’d prefer they just get out of the way.
Neither of these clowns is worth a vote but if we get stuck with one, lets hope its Hillary. We know she’ll move the the center right after entering office. She’ll be more worried about her legacy and post-presidency book sales than she will about the Socialist garbage she’s selling out on the campaign trail.

I don’t understand what everyone is so upset about with the “bitter” comment. People across the country, including those in small towns, are worried about losing their jobs, sick of the war in Iraq, and unsure if they can truly trust the government. I don’t think many have a rosy outlook on the immediate future of the US. I think that Obama was fairly accurate to say that we are bitter. This election will hopefully bring around some drastic changes to help restore our faith in America.

Let’s just call it like it is. John F. Kennedy or Harry S. Truman would not be able to get elected today in the Democrat party. They demorats have gone so far left and into the nanny society mode. Obama is there pick, he is not a democrat, he is a socialist.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:25 am
I get a kick out of how people are scared of Obama being president and creating a bigger gov’t which will eat away at people pocketbooks.
But it is ok. for the current President to spend 512 billion on a stupid war (which McCain supports) ALL FOR NOTHING! That equates to 4,681.00 per houshold or 1,721.00 per person. 324 million per day. Not to mention all the lives lost as well as the international view of our country down the crapper.
Lets see, the other option is a 110 year old man who is a George Bush clone. Hillary would be just as bad as McCain.
April 17th, 2008 at 12:18 pm
Don’t you just love it when you get under the Dem’s skin a little?? Instead of a policy or issues debate out comes “Bush is stupid” or “Stupid war”. I’ll take a candidate that promises to get control of spending in Washington, continue the Bush tax cuts and understands the broader concepts of why we’re in Iraq any day over a Marxist who believes its governments role to make all citizens economic equals through higher taxes and government handouts.

Here, here Bones…. couldn’t agree more.
April 17th, 2008 at 5:32 pm
I wish I could say to you “no bones about it” But I can’t. lol
April 17th, 2008 at 5:34 pm
Oh, by the way bones. I am not a democrat. You know what they say about the word “assume”.
April 18th, 2008 at 8:10 am
Great points folks. Way to defend Bush Jr. If you really think he has done that great of a job then you need to get a life and look at the real picture. Talk to the moms and dads that are both in Iraq, or the 19 years with holes in their bodies or missing limbs. Or look at our economy and the massive amount of spending that is happening in every other country but our own. I would imagine that every politician has some sort of crazy connection to a “bad” person or several stupid statements. So what if he marched in the Million Man March, 999,999 other people did to, do you think they are all bad people. The past is the past. Under your theory Obama would join forces with Al Qaeda and take over the world and then banish all people living in small towns that hang to their religion. Great thinking. Open your eyes. Our Youth need a future and that future needs to be somewhere other than Iraq or living in fear of being attacked. They need to know that they will be taken care of if they work hard. Unlike you my kids, and maybe even me, won’t benefit from social security. You are welcome by the way. Get your heads out of the sand. I am not saying to just vote for Obama but come on, to hang on every word someone says or anyone that has crossed their path is ridiculous.
April 18th, 2008 at 9:52 am
Did anyone listen to the Democratic debate? Did you hear what Obama said when his was asked about taxes? When taxes go down, more money is collected by the government. Obama said it was not about the money collected by the Government, but it was about being far. He wants to redistribute the money.
I know most of the people don’t care about history, but has anyone heard of the Communist Manifesto, written back in 1848 by Karl Marx and Friedich Engels and then implemented in 1917 in Russia by Vladimir Lenin. Obama’s statement is the same message of Karl Marx and Vladimir Lenin. Let the Government controls the money and redistributes it, the way they think is far, instead of the Capitalist way, the way that has made the USA the richest, best nation in the World.
It is amazing to me that he can get away with this statement now. 5-10-15 years ago he would have been booed off the stage. We should all be very worried about our Country if he gets elected. God help us.
#12, I have been to Iraq and I have seen first hand the changes. Have you or are you just listening to the biase old media. You are a fool.
April 18th, 2008 at 12:24 pm
#12, I don’t understand were you are coming from. Do I agree with everything President Bush has done, NO.? But have we been attacked again, NO.
I can see you have fallen for all the fluff and bumper stickers. And what do you mean won’t benefit from Social Security. Social Security was supposed to be a government, short term program in the 1930’s, to get the older population out of the work force and get them a pension, so the young people with a family could get a job. I, see unlike #13, you didn’t pay attention in Government, History or Civics class. I also won’t benefit from Social Security, but I have planned for retirement and I’m going to be fine.
Reference the moms and dads in Iraq, I along with #13 I see, have been deployed and I’m going back again. The 19yr old soldiers who are injured, I feel bad for them, but like me they are VOLUNTEERS, they are not draftees and they know the risks. Thank goodness we have people like them who will fight for us. I wish people would think for themselves, do a little research and not just, like some say, drink the Kool Aid.
April 18th, 2008 at 12:54 pm
Well #12, I never claimed to be a Bush supporter. He’s made mistakes with the economy by not controlling spending and with Iraq by putting too much trust in the civilians and not enough in the commanders on the ground. To 13 & 14 and the rest of our men and women in the service, I’d say thank you for your service and assure them I’ll be proud to pay any additional taxes or fees that are used to pay for their medical care or anything else they may need in life. As for you and your children, you’re right, you probably won’t have social security to rely on especially if the Congress keeps blocking efforts to reform the system. By the way, you can thank Tip O’Neil and the gang for raiding the lockbox. It was empty long before the current administration took office. As far as Obama’s associations, they speak volumes about his true character.
Maybe its time to stop and think about who’s eyes need to be opened.
April 18th, 2008 at 2:13 pm
#12 - I don’t agree with President Bush on everything he has done - it would be unrealistic to do so. I do believe he does want a positive future for our kids - that is why we are in Iraq. Who knows where we would be or what we would have gone through by now if someone wouldn’t have intervined.
Thank you to all of the WONDERFUL service men & women. You have made us all safer. You are America’s heroes!

…and once again, a person’s PATRIOTISM is questioned if they have an opinion differing from the hardcore, NEO-CON, pro-war, evangelical, Pro-Bush, Anti-thought line.
I love my country, but i sure as hell don’t have to like what we do, and it sure as hell IS my job to stand up and express my opinion without being shouted down and painted with a anti-American label. This is where I say rightwing propaganda, and now someone will come in and say liberal media and we’ll all be good little unthinking masses and fall right along party lines. Pathetic. I’m so glad I’m younger then all you stubborn jackassed babyboomers.
You’re boring and sad and in tiny little predictable boxes, and the day you’re all too old to get your asses, (or the grandkids decide it’s time to take your carkeys away to keep you from voting) out to vote will be a day of celebration for all of us that have come after you.
April 18th, 2008 at 8:07 pm
Yes, we can all state our opinion. Maybe next time you could consider cleaning up your language and not cutting others down.
Your young age shows in your post. Maybe in time your attitude will change. I know mine has……
April 18th, 2008 at 8:21 pm
Nice post #17. I agree with you. And this is coming from a JACKASS babyboomer. Although I have hope!
I would like to add the word PARANOIA to the right wing propaganda “spew” I read on this blog.
April 19th, 2008 at 1:07 pm
I get a kick out of this new generation X. They have no clue. They have had everything given to them and have NEVER done anything for their Country. #17, what have you done for your Country, marched at a Planned Parenthood Rally and #19, I bet you maybe are a Senior in High School, what have you done for you Country, I bet nothing, just sit back and bitch. #19, PARANOIA, so young, so foolish.
So, if you two are so hot on Obama, what has he done and makes him the best candidate. Instead of calling everyone who doesn’t agree with you names, just like a good modern day Liberal will do, tell us what makes him the best. As I look at these blogs, the people you call right wing NEO CON, accully have life experience. #17, do you even know what the definition of a NEO CON, I doubt it, typical, heard some Left wing Liberal on Air America say it and you regurgitate it like a mina bird.
Definition of Neoconservatism; is the first variant of American conservatism in the past century that is in the ‘American grain.’ It is hopeful, not lugubrious; forward-looking, not nostalgic; and its general tone is cheerful, not grim or dyspeptic. Its 20th-century heroes tend to be Theodore Roosevelt, Frank D. Roosevelt, and Ronald Reagan
April 19th, 2008 at 1:41 pm
#17 and #19, who said “Asked not what your Country can do for you, but what can you do for your Country”? Who also cut taxes while he was President? Who also stood up to the Soviet Union? Yes, a Democrat President, names John F. Kennedy, who today could not even run for President on the Democratic ticket, WHY YOU ASKED, because he would be too conservative and labeled a NEO CON. There is no more Democratic Party, it is now a Socialist Party and should rename itself to American Socialist Party, because they have more in common with the Old Soviet Union, then they do with the Old Democratic Party. What Party do you suppose Truman, FDR or Kennedy would better fit today, I would say the Republican Party. Now I guess you can call me a NEO CON and Paranoid too, because I don’t believe what you believe. I am still registered as a Democrat, but I am not voting Democrat this Year, because no one running of that ticket is a Democrat.
April 19th, 2008 at 8:40 pm
….is not a obama supporter. or hill. or mccain. i will most likely leave the presidential box unmarked this year. i’ve done way too much research to feel even remotely comfortable voting for any of them. it’s like…you have a fave restaurant, you love this place, food is always good, always looks clean, friendly staff. then you find out all it’s dark, dirty little secrets from someone that maybe worked there, whatever, and you’re now disgusted and horrified and plan on never eating in that place again. you also make sure to tell everyone how bad that place is, because you don;t want them to go in and get food poisoning….pretty much sums up how i feel about this race.
….and realizes that the people that came BEFORE her INCLUDING both of her grandfathers (ww2) and greatgrandfathers (ww1) and several uncles (vietnam) did their jobs fighting in wars so that she didn’t have to. i am deeply thankful to them. isn’t that why they went to war? so that the generations following wouldn’t have to? so that any eveildoers (bush word) that followed would be less likely to evil do???
that’s once again, typical jargon…if things were different, things would be different, JFK was a conservative blah blah blah, you didn’t fight in any wars, so you couldn’t possibly understand the full idea of what it is to be american blahblhablah, so you’re less of an american than i am blahblahblah.
i’ll cuss all i want, thank you. tell me i’m uneducated. tell me i’m ungrateful. tell me i’m spoilt. whatever. you have no clue who i am, and truly, with the vitriol you all spout…i’m pretty glad i have no idea who you are either.
In summation…Thanks for proving my argument
April 19th, 2008 at 8:42 pm
#21, i forgot to add, i wholeheartedly agree…the dems are a hot mess, but so are the alternatives.
April 20th, 2008 at 11:44 am
I’d favor a Common Sense party. Platform plank #1: we’re going to advocate for government that does what’s best for this country - even if that (heaven forbid) makes the other parties, or some other group we disagree with on an issue, look good.
April 21st, 2008 at 7:21 am
Gordy, I agree with you and that was the point I was trying to make in #21. Do what is best for the Country, not what is good for ANY certain Party. Amen
