Do you carpool?

I usually go to work at the Argus in the middle of the morning, so I miss the morning rush. Today I rode in with my husband at 7:30 a.m. There were so many people on the road! What a parade of taillights there was.
And even with the high price of gas, I bet most of those cars had only one person in them.
How about your car? Did it have one person only, or do you carpool? Have you changed your commuting habits at all since the price of gas went up?

I am part of that glowing red snake that winds to SF each morning. I drive solo. I work from home if the roads are bad in the winter and try to bike to work when the weather is nice. I try to plan any errands that I may have in SF around my workday (lunch break or on the way home).

I carpool with my father. He works on the west end of town and I work out in Tea. We like the fact that it has saved us over $300 a month in gas. It works out great becuz he has 2 work b4 me and I get off b4 him and the drive is nice to have someone to talk to in the bad weather and to have that extra pair of eyes in the winter with all of this “fun” weather that we have been having.

I would love to car-pool, however, I have a child in daycare in Brandon and am always scared of not having a car available in case of emergencies, etc, and I work from 8:30-5:30, outside of the normal hours. If anyone is interested though…I’d be willing to give it a shot…

I don’t carpool even though I know several people at work that live in Brandon. The trouble with carpooling is you lose control of you time - you have to wait for someone to show up, someone has to work a little late, you’d like to get some things done before you go to work, you want to leave a little early, etc. I would carpool if gas was rationed. The gas situation would have to be a lot worse before I change my ways.

Some of the things I have done to help offset the higher price of gas is; I inflated my tires to the highest recommended range on my tires and I also removed one of the bench seats from my minivan. That saves about 90 lbs. I went from around 20 mpg to 23 mpg.

Dave,
I suggested to my husband removing one of the bench seats in our van to improve mileage, and he suggested that removing the nut behind the wheel would save even more weight.
