Early birds vs. night owls

January 15th, 2008 by Alica

Are you an early bird or a night owl?

If left to my own devices, I think I would end up staying up all night and sleeping all day. My grandma wakes up early each morning without the benefit of an alarm clock, and she retires while the prime time shows are still on television.

People have told me that if I get up early on a regular basis, I’ll get used to it. That doesn’t seem to be the case, though. I’ve gone through long periods where I awoke early in the morning. It just seems to make me more tired during the day.

How about you? Are you up at the crack of dawn, or is that when you finally settle in to get some shuteye? Are you lucky enough to be able to have a schedule that conforms to your inner clock? If not, how do you deal with having to get up before you’re ready, or to stay up a lot later than you want?

The only time it’s good to watch the sunrise is if one is going to bed immediately thereafter.

    Agreed 100 percent.

Having 4 kids, I always think that the best part of the day/night is between 3-4AM. It is very QUIET….and on a good night/day, if you are able to sit outside to listen to the quiet…there is no better peacefulness than that.

Agreed, #3. I used to work a lot of nights (still do, but not as often), and I used to like to stand outside in the wee hours and pretend the town was mine.
