The City Council forum that was supposed to be re-broadcast Thursday will be broadcast instead tonight at 8 p.m. on Alliance Cable Channel 18.
The mayoral candidate forum will be broadcast again on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
If you didn’t get a chance to attend the forums, please take time to watch them on tv.
And be sure to vote on Tuesday. Residents will decide on a City Council member from Ward I, the mayor and the proposed ambulance ordinance. Also, Ward II residents will vote on their City Council representative even though there is only one person running for the seat.
We’ve had lots of discussion on why to vote for or against the proposed ambulance ordinance. But who do you favor for mayor, or for Ward I? Let us know.

How many of you have heard our city council referred to as ‘the brandon maffia’??? I am ashamed to admit being part of brandon for that reason…new blood is needed…big time changes!!

I must say I have never heard that statement. I must not go to the right places to do my business in Brandon. The people who are running for office are honest, hard working people who want what is best for Brandon. Larry Beesley is definitely the right man for mayor.

Sally, would you please compare and contrast the two mayor candidates for us? In what ways would Larry Beesley outshine his opponent as a mayor, in your opinion? Thank you.

Mayor Beesley has experience working with the present council. As you can tell by the Ambulance Ordinance, there are differing idea’s on what the ordinance will do for our city. You can believe that Mayor Beesley wants only what is right for our citizens. The council and the mayor do not always agree on the way to go about that, but the heart of it is, he has the best interest of our town. The Holly Blvd. Project was and is a major project that is going to be taken on. When that first began there were many citizen that were unhappy, but when the mayor presented the facts and idea’s in several city meetings, the plans were worked out, and things are going to be carried out. He is a good listener, and truly wants what is best. He holds no interest other than our citizens. He does not have any ambitions of being governor, or holding a senate seat. The working relationship with the Chamber and the School District has been a good one. He is visible in the community and works in the community. I think that is very important.

I think it’s time for a change in the leadership of Brandon. I believe that Brett Bastain brings an energy that this city sorely lacks. I am also encourgaged by his proposal to donate the mayors salary to a fund for the betterment of Brandon.

The gifting of the mayor’s salary is a unique idea. I have always been a bit hesitant of people who give donations, and maybe want something from it. The Brandon Foundation is all ready in place, and is for the entire community to contribute to. There are several charitable places that Mayor Beesley has given to. Bethany Meadows, The BV Health Fair, and being a teacher, I am quite certain that several children and families have probably benefited from his quiet kindness. People who give from the heart anonymously have my vote every time.

It was eye opening to me to learn the Brett Bastian works for Dr. Howey. Dr. Howey owns land in Brandon that he is turning into new developments. Makes me wonder whom Brett would be working for if he is elected mayor. I plan on voting for Mayor Beesley.

Dubious, I see your concern about Brett Bastian working with Dr Howey but are you worried about Mr Rubin working with Med-Star ?
April 10th, 2007 at 8:25 am
Leon, yes, I have mentioned my concerns about Mr. Rubin in the ambulance blog. I was trying to keep my comments specific to the blog topic. I did vote this morning; Beesley and NO on 381.

Way to go Dubious! Sally will be doing the same thing. I have heard the voter turn out is good. I am proud to be from Brandon. I hope irate will be too!

Regarding the Holly Blvd resolution, I can’t credit that to Mr. Beesley. Credit goes to the organized group of Holly Blvd who worked hard being heard and hired an attorney to represent them equally.
I do feel sad that Sally is hesitant about people to make donations. Donation comes from the heart and it has saved many from horrible situations. South Dakotans are at the top of the national list for donations per income. We should be proud of someone giving back to our community.
Being mayor is more than PR work and being seen at community events. It’s also about being firm when needed and being a leader at all times. Just my two cents.

Believe me Jeramiah, I have made many donations to several causes, and I didn’t feel the need to have to have it printed for the public to see. AKA, if Mr. Bastian is voted mayor he will give his salary to the first responders. I believe that executive session is when the mayor needs to be firm. Airing of discipline to council members does not need to be done in public.
April 10th, 2007 at 6:28 pm
Sally,
I wasn’t “calling you out” I just felt bad that you said you were hesitant of people who gave donations. I took that as a generalization, not specific to Mr. Bastian. And yes, Mr. Bastian did state that he thought giving his salary to buy AED’s for first responders was first on his list. I didn’t say anything about disciplining council members in public so I’m not sure where that came from. My intent was that the mayor be firm in making tough decisions. It wasn’t intended to mean council members. Is there something about council members you would like to discuss? Again, no offense was intended.

May the best man win!
