Go, matmen

December 11th, 2007 by Alica

Brandon Valley wrestlers are 1-1 so far this season, with a win over Lennox and a loss to Vermillion. But the Lynx take on Lincoln and O’Gorman on Thursday at Lincoln. How do you think they will do? Will you attend the meet?

Brandon Valley’s first home meet is the Lynx Invite on Jan. 5.

The wrestling squad is led by six seniors this year, with two of them former state place winners. So the team is strong. Coach Jeff Duncanson’s goal is to finish in the top four in the conference this year, and in the top four in the state as well. What are the Lynx’ chances of doing that?

The wrestlers compete tonight @ Lincoln. We wrestle our first match @ 630pm against OG then Lincoln.

We do have a strong team this year. Anytime you have a large senior group of wrestlers you will be able to compete.

Wrestling is very much an individual sport. The team results are rolled into the individual scores. We will need ALL wrestlers doing their best on every individual match to finish well as a team throughout the season.

We have a good coaching staff who works hard with the young men.

Come watch the wrestlers this season.

So how did the boys do last night?

  3. Todd Neuberger - Wrestling Dad & Wrestling Cheerleader Dad Says:

    Alica,

I just got back into town.

On Thursday the team wrestled AWESOME!! We beat Sioux Falls Lincoln and Sioux Falls OG. The whole team had very good outing.

I missed Saturday night’s match in Huron. I heared the guys ran into a tough team. They lost the match but a few of the guys came away with some good wins.

We have the SF Lincoln Invite this Friday and Saturday. There will be 16 teams at this event. Every year a few of individual weight class winners will eventually become top place winners in the state either in the A or B class.

I will keep blogging on the team.

We are off the Aberdeen tonight. I hope the fog holds off so we can have safe travels.

I am not sure what the outlook for the team is tonight. I know that we usually wrestle pretty good against Aberdeen.

We are going to be in the newest , largest (?) , and most score boards gymnasium in AA athletics. It truely is the Taj Mahal of gyms in the state.

Tomorrow the wretlers compete in the annual Lincoln Wrestling Tournament. There are 16 teams from both A and B (only classes in wrestling because they combine all schools split the schools between the two classes) classes. The next two days will be a great indicator as to how well the BV wrestlers will compete for the rest of the season.

The final round of that tournament is a true rumble!!!

I remember a few years ago when Paul Ode was in the finals of that tournament. He was in a 6 minute war with his opponent.
That was just the start of many great , tough battles for Paul for the rest of the season.

The Lincoln Invite brings top teams together early in the season. If you are done Christmas shopping wrestling starts @ 11 am on Friday.

I remember photographing many a Lincoln wrestling tournament. But didn’t they used to have it during the week between Christmas and New Year’s?

My son wrestled six years for the Lynx. He made it to state once, but he didn’t place. Still, it was fun to watch him compete for those six years. (Except for that one time a kid almost dropped him on his head. I was pretty scared during that match.)

Most years he competed, I couldn’t even cheer for him, as I was there to take pictures for the newspaper. But in his senior year, I attended just as a mother, and I cheered him on a lot. Mostly I yelled at his opponent, though. I think I yelled things like, “Let go of my boy!”

    Alica,

Speaking of photographs how do I get you wrestling pictures to put on Brandoninfo.com?

  7. Alica Says:

    Todd,

On the main www.brandoninfo.com page, scroll down until you see the reader-submitted photos on the left side of the page. You can click on “publish photos” next to “get published,” and that should take you to a place where you can download, or upload (I never can remember which is which) the photos directly to the Web site yourself.

If you have trouble, let me know and I will do what I can to help.

    Thanks.

We have our first home match of the season on Thursday. We wrestle Yankton. We have a good team who sure could use the fan support from their community.

    See you there!! Go Lynx!!

  10. Todd Neuberger - Wrestling Dad & Wrestling Cheerleader Dad Says:

WOW !!!! What a match. We beat Yankton by a score of 34 to 32. I am not sure we have beaten Yankton in a dual match for over 10 years.

We had a huge night by every member of the team. It started off at 103 w/ Morgan all the way through Nate @ 215. We won matches were we needed too and created some upsets through out the lineup.

I wish we wold have taped this dual. It will go done as one of the best highlights of our seniors year.

THE NIGHT WE BEAT YANKTON AT BVHS !!!

  11. Todd Neuberger - Wrestling Dad & Wrestling Cheerleader Dad Says: Says:

The wrestling season will be done by the 26th of February.

The team continues to get stronger and more confident.

We have had some close duels that our guys showed good results and got good experience going into the tournament season.

We will have a handful of wrestlers who can and should make it into the state tournament. The regions are 14th and 15th in Yankton. If they prepare themselves mentally we should have success in our region.

This week we travel to Watertown for a Friday night duel.
