Loyalty Day Parade

April 29th, 2008 by Alica

Do you plan to attend the Loyalty Day Parade this Sunday? Have you attended in the past?

I marched in the parade in junior high and all through high school, because I was a band kid. Later, I photographed the parade for quite a few years, for the Brandon Valley Challenger. I even announced the parade for a year or two.

I remember marching band. I really enjoyed that. In fact, to this day, if I’m walking and there’s music, I find myself stepping in time to the music.

What are your Loyalty Day Parade memories?

I remember trying to find out what the route would be and kept being told - ‘just like last year’ or ‘the usual route’. That was only useful if you grew up in Brandon or had attended last year. I parked too far away and learned where to park the next year. I also remember my son trying to pretend he didn’t see me taking his picture.

So what was the best about the parade? Obviously the weather for sure!

The weather was a very happy surprise, considering what we’ve been through in the past week or so.

I rode in the parade, so I didn’t get to see most of it. But I thought Patsy Terveer and her grandkids riding on a float to celebrate her birthday and her granddaughter’s birthday was a hoot.

Just goes to show that you don’t have to be part of a business or organization to be in the parade. What fun.

I also want to thank members of the VFW and American Legion for their service to our country. It is because of them that we are able to have a parade and celebrate our patriotism, our community and the spring weather.

The parade was excellent, and everyone who took time to participate in it deserves thanks. Alica, when you rode by my wife and I noted that yours was the first car with flames we had ever seen that TRULY looked cool.

Thanks, I’m glad you like the paint job. It’s called “true fire” in the trade. It’s popular out on the west coast, but it’s only now starting to be seen in these here parts.
