Marlet Graue

April 30th, 2008 by Alica

Our Brandon Valley transportation director is retiring. Was Marlet Graue ever your bus driver? Were you on the trip to the USD medical school to see the cadavers? Maybe you were one of the naughty children who was suspended from the bus.

I know her as a self-assured, capable person.
What are your stories of Marlet?

Good riddance. Wish it would have happened long ago. I cannot imagine a more unfriendly person in that position. In my opinion, she should have been fired long ago by the school district.

  2. Anon Says:

I can’t really refute anything that Brandondude said. My interactions with Mrs. Graue were not positive. My neighbors have had similar experiences. I would prefer that she retire and seek employment in another school district, part time or otherwise. I don’t want her driving my child’s bus given her view on children - “I hope that parents make it miserable for their kids”. God knows she made life miserable for plenty of parents.

  3. Christine Says:

Unfortunatly I have to agree with the other two responces…when my daughter was in first grade the driver let her off on the wrong stop…I was not notified by the bus department…the daycare provider new more about it than I did…when I called and talked to her about it she was rude and unapologetic…

It sounds like she was a real winner. Did anyone ever complain to the school administration or school board about her attitude??

  5. Anon Says:

Yes. I know a number of people that complained to the previous administration. It seemed to fall on deaf ears. It was rumored that she was given a few days off work (unpaid) for some of her actions, but I’m not sure as that is kept private. Certainly not the model employee that she was painted to be in the paper.

  6. Unbelievable! Says:

You people have no class. Her job was to get thousands of children for over 24 years to school and home safely. Not to be your friend. Can you even begin to imagine the daily headaches she had dealing with parents like you!

  7. Experience Says:

#6. These people are speaking from experience as they were asked to do. Granted her job is probably stressful, but welcome to the real world. And she probably dealt with a great deal of parents, welcome to the world of education. There are still times when compassion and generosity come into play and that appears not to be the case.

  8. Anonymous Says:

Hell people have complained about the council, police, fire, sneakers and so on so on so on…it appears that is all we do here? Maybe we need to find a better hobby than pick other peoples lives apart?

  9. anonymous Says:

Voicing concerns about issues is the whole point of blogging. Have you ever heard the analogy “the squeaky wheel gets the grease”

If no one complains, nothing ever gets improved.

You have a dog next door that barks 24/7. If you don’t complain do you expect the problem to get solved?

I learned an awful lot about the issues on this blog, and also what questions to ask. Yes there’s always one or two that take it too far but that happens with anything. You have to be smart enough and proactive enough to weed out the cr*p.

  10. B-Citizen Says:

    No doubt #8. Agree wholeheartedly.

#9 voicing concerns is one thing. But trash talking people through an anonymous blog is another thing.

  11. Unbelievable! Says:

This is not a forum to address individual circumstances where we are only hearing one side of the story…These people are just trying to personally attack a hard working dedicated employee. Disgusting…I hope you know the majority of the people who read your crap know who the real jerks are here!

  12. Brandondude Says:

This is a time when there are bad people who prey on young children. When you are the parent of a young child that gets left behind or dropped off at the wrong place, and you call the transportation supervisor to express your concern and you don’t get a hint of an apology (at any time) or an ounce of empathy, it leaves a bad impression of the school district. Mrs. Graue has not treated people with the respect that they deserve over the years. You reap what you sow.

  13. Unbelievable! Says:

Once again…onesided story here…and no preying of children involved…Sounds to me like a case of miscommunication between parent/ and transportation department!

  14. Anon Says:

#13 Just how does one communicate with the transporation department? Normally a phone call and the individual on the other end will discuss the situation. Not so with this individual. She was not interested in working with people - unfortuantely. She has been mean and crabby to kids (and parents)for many years.

I hope the new individual in this position is easier to work with. Improvement is needed.

  15. VOR Says:

When my daughter went to school and used the bus for transportation, there were forms that needed to be completed and turned in within a certain timeframe to assure that mishaps like the ones that were referred to in #12 didn’t happen. Hmmmm…could it be that a parent didn’t follow the process and got pissed off when their little hand written note or perhaps a phone call to the office at the last minute and the message didn’t get delivered in time to assure the change

  16. Brandondude Says:

No. #14 hit it right on the head.

  17. NDB Says:

#13 This is not a one-sided story. Everyone on this blog has an opportunity to tell of their experience. Problem is, there does not seem to be a single example that would speak well to her character or of her handling a situation with an appropriate amount of professionalism and patience.

  18. BKV Says:

My experience with Mrs. Graue was nothing but a bad experience. For being a director and having to deal with customers and customer service, I can tell you that is not her cup of tea. I understand she has a lot of issues happening every day of the school year, but she needa to take her job more seriously. She does not have a sympathetic bone in her body as far as her job goes. I can only hope that her predecessor does better. If she had that kind of an attitude with an employer that sold merchandise I guarantee that she would have been fired a long time ago.

  19. ......... Says:

You do not have a job like Mrs Graue and not make some enemies along the way. Can you imagine the logistic nightmare she must have to get all of the kids to and from school? Our kids have been riding the bus for four years now and we have nothing but positive experiences with the transportation department. There have been a few times when one of our children did not get off the bus coming home. I called immediately and was taken seriously. Calls were made to the driver and to the schools. Every time…it was my child’s fault NOT the transportation departments. He missed the bus because he was lollygagging. Did I call and yell at transportation for not waiting? No. I talked with my child about why he needs to get to the bus right away. Some parents never let their children take ownership for the problems they may be having. We are to quick to jump in and either blame someone else or fix the problem for them. Marlette…thank you for your years of hard work and for getting my children to and from school safely every day. This is no small job. Enjoy your retirement!
