Quarterback Club

Do you plan to participate in the Quarterback Club? The next meeting is Oct. 3 from 12 to 12:45 p.m. at Tailgator’s. The club will meet every other Wednesday to talk about all kinds of Brandon Valley Sports.
Do you think the Quarterback Club will end up being just a handful of super fans who want to pick apart every detail of the most recent game, or do you think it will end up as a popular community gathering that will help increase attendance at games and membership in the Brandon Valley Booster Club? Or something in between?
A story on www.brandoninfo.com says that the club will continue even after football season is over, and the club’s name may change depending on what sport is in season. What possible names does that bring to mind?
Basketball: Half Court Club? Center Club?
Wrestling: Take Down Club? Pin Club? (which might work for bowling too)
Volleyball: Ace Club? Spike Club?
Track: Hurdle Club?
Tennis: Singles Club? (sorry, couldn’t resist)
Golf: Club Club (again, sorry, couldn’t resist)
Actually, some of the so-called “minor” sports might not even get to be part of the name. Even in football, since the name is the Quarterback Club, some players will never get to be part of the club name. Unless the name were something that would encompass every sport, like the Lynx Club of something like that.
What do you think?

When I first heard about this great opportunity, I thought, what a GREAT idea. Both Dean and Chris are friends and fine supports of youth sports in our community. As a former staff member of Results Radio in Sioux Falls, I have attended and guest hosted the Quarterback Club (football), the JumpBall Club (basketball) and the Coaches shows. I will attend as my schedule will allow. GO LYNX!

Referring to the commuters blog…this “club” meets during the day. How many people will actually be able to attend? It sounds like another excuse for an “ol’ boys network”. VERY EXCLUSIVE, and what a shame! BVHS has always had a terrific Booster Club, wouldn’t that accomplish the same goals? As far as attendance at any games, it is always difficult to find seating at either football or basketball events, which are the 2 main revenue sports…I don’t understand the necessity.

The idea to have a quarterback club comes from a few different minds. I believe Mr Marso (AD) , some coaching staff and booster club members brain stormed / copied the idea from other local schools. IE. SF , Yankton and H2o
First, I always hear that to get on the Booster Club is next to impossible and you only get on if you are a part of the right group.
Well, this quarterback club (possible name changes w/ change in sport seasons) is designed to be OPEN to the whole community. What a great way to show your support , participate , and follow the LYNX athletes.
Second - This is not replacing the Booster Club. It is encouraging GREATER participation from the whole community towards BVHS athletics. It allows retirees , non school age parents , and childless adults to follow BVHS athletics.
Third - The location and sponsor stepped forward to donate their resources for the athletes of BVHS. I think the time is a challenge but I would bet tweaking will occur as this gets ramped up especially during different seasons. We have to remember the coaches & AD have families , other obligations and interests where we have to try to figure out a workable solution to the time slot.
I would love to see this GROW so we have 100+ strong attending meetings , networking , and brainstorming ideas for the STUDENTS of BVSD.
(notice I did not just say athletes - this could possibly benefit the whole school district in the future)
Next meeting is Oct 31 @ 12 noon @ Tailgators — See you there!!

I have to agree with english songbird that this is exactly a good ol’ boys network of a select few people. If they wanted more input they would have it at night or on a weekend. This is just another attempt for Chris Comeaux to get his nose into the football program. He already is in tight with coach Garrow and some of the other coaches. He has been supplying free beer for some of these guys all summer(he works for a distributor) trying to buy his way in. His kid is only a 5th grader but there is already talk of when he will be the next BV QB. Notice the coaches shirt Chris wears to games. This QB club is just another way for him to weasel his way in.

I am not aware of those freebies. Nor do I believe that
when it comes to making player decisions will FREE beer be a determining factor.
I personally know Chris. He is a SPORTS fan. I am glad that he approached the athletic department offering to promote this idea. Anytime a supporter comes up with a good idea I believe it is worth looking into the possibility of implementing.
Many other local and ESD schools have some really good booster club activity going on. This is / was a good idea to try implement.
