It’s the time of year to make resolutions. Here are some possible resolutions Brandon could make. What resolutions do you think Brandon should make? Post them here.
Brandon should resolve to acquire at least three new businesses this year.
Brandon should resolve to have a lower crime rate than last year.
Brandon should resolve to win at least one athletic championship this year.

I don’t get it. Brandon people are so opposed to having decent ambulance service that they reject a much debated ordinance. It took about a year for that thing. Nobody griped then. People are content with volunteer and 25 minute Rural Metro response times. Just to get there. That doesn’t include the time back to Sioux Falls. Hope you’re not at risk of a heart attack.
You have an paramedic ambulance service in your town that I’m sure would like to serve the people of its town. It just doesn’t make sense to me. You have an ordinance that would make it possible for other companies with more trucks and local people.
Rural Metro has three ambulances on duty for 180,000 people. That’s day. At nite, there’s 2. This is the service you want for your town? You could have another company, local or even a national company bid, and provide you with better service.
Good luck on the new businesses. It doesn’t seem like a business friendly place when you try to vote against laws for new businesses.
I have lived in Valley Springs for years. I have seen what having so little access to health care has done to our town. If you get hurt on the farm, it’s easier to drive yourself.

It would be good to have a closer ambulance service licensed in Brandon, and it would be good to have more than one service available.
It would be good as long as the standards are set high and as long as all the available services meet those standards.
The thing about the new ordinance that makes me uneasy is that it is not as strict as the old city ordinance, and it also isn’t as strict as the county ordinance. What is the benefit of a law that requires lower standards?
Another thing that makes me uneasy is the part in the county ordinance that says the county won’t license ambulance services to overlap territory. Does this mean that if Brandon licenses a service other than Rural Metro, then Rural Metro won’t provide service to Brandon? I don’t know if that’s the case or not, but I really want to know the answer to that before I vote on the ordinance in April.

Rodney,
You are missing the point, and that is the whole problem with this issue. LACK OF KNOWLEDGE WITH THE LANGUAGE OF THE NEW ORDINANCE.

CONTINUATION OF PREVIOUS POST. People of Brandon….PLEASE read, compare and educate yourself on the old and new version of the ordinance. I don’t think anyone is opposed to an ambulance service in Brandon, we are opposed to the language and lower standards put in place by the new ordinance. The new ordinance has glaring deficiencies. It almost seems to be taylor made for a service that is lacking some important procedures. There is a post on this forum under ambulance ordinance differences that outlines the major problems. PLEASE READ IT. Let’s not focus on one issue of 25 minute response times, first of all that in most cases is absolutely not true. Does it take you 25 minutes to get from Brandon to Sioux Falls? How about if you have lights and sirens are are on code 4 status? I doubt it.
