Rock concert in Brandon?

February 25th, 2008 by Alica

Kevin Leisinger wants to have a weekend rock fest in McHardy Park this July 25 and 26. He also wants people to be able to camp and drink alcohol during the event. The city council is expected to decide March 3 if he can or not.

The two-day event would feature nine bands. He can’t predict how many people might attend, but he thinks it easily could be in the thousands. He plans to give the city $1 from each $40 ticket sale and 25 percent of all alcohol sales.

Leisinger has promoted several big name groups, including Chicago, Foreigner, Firehouse, REO Speedwagon, Poison, Cinderella and Clay Aiken.

How might this event benefit the city? The city could get $5,000 to $10,000 in income from its cut of the ticket and liquor sales. And local merchants might get more sales. The city benefits from that, too, through sales tax income.
What might be some of the drawbacks of the event? If you don’t happen to be a fan of rock music, you might want to invest in earplugs for the weekend, especially if you live near the park. The event could cost the city money that weekend in extra wages for police and city maintenance. And any time liquor is served, there is an increased potential for crime.
Do you think Leisinger should be able to hold his concert in Brandon? Why or Why not?

I’m not a local resident at all, but I’d suggest Mr. Leisinger would need to cough up a much higher percentage of that $40.00 ticket fee. As you suggested, there will be police needed, maintenance crew needed before and afterward.
$5,000.-$10,000. doesn’t seem to be enough to turn over to the city.
Unless Mr.Leisinger wants to pay for the added security, and clean up crews.

  2. brandonresident Says:

Nice Hammond…….”What’s is in for us” How about a little “tact.” Why does everything have to have the “it’s all about us attitude?”

Considering that the council thinks Husets draws droves of people spending money in the city, (and they’re outside the city limits and 3 hours in length) I would think the council would be thrilled with a 2 day event! And camping too…where do you think these people are going to eat???

They (council) always want to compare us to Sioux Falls, well here’s the chance.

    MARTI,
Why should he cough up more?? He’s bringing perhaps thousands of people to town to buy food and gas. He’s providing his own security and I’m sure he has his own clean up crew.

Can someone find out if the promoters of Jazz Fest, Lifelight and Summer Jam give money to the city??

Does the Arts in the park held at McCarty park give money to the city???

  3. Julie Says:

Why would the city get anything. Instead they should set up clear cut guidelines of what is expected out of groups that use the park for events. I don’t believe that we should look at every event and say how much money in it for us. Rather we should look at an event and decide whether the benefits for the businesses and citizens of Brandon outweigh the risks.

  4. tlc Says:

Why wouldn’t the city allow this? This is a Chamber Coordinators wet dream. The promoter is going to supply security, line up the vendors and sell the tickets… All the city of Brandon has to do is to allow it to happen and by doing so can possibly make a few bucks. Hell, give the money to the Fire Department. Who knows this thing could grow and become an annual event that people plan for months in advance with a destination of McHardy Park in Brandon SD! Yes, it’s a musical event so there will be loud music, but I think everyone would survive, its only one weekend. This would fill up the restaurants, bars, grocery stores and convenience stores in town, how could any business owner turn this down. This is a great opportunity for the city of Brandon and if the council denies this, I feel it would be a mistake.

  5. 4Ever in Brandon Says:

This is a golden opportunity to entice visitors and their wallets to town. For Mr. Hammond, what’s in it for us is sales tax revenue. And the noise can’t be any worse than Husets on Sunday nights. Take a chance on this, city council.

  6. anonymous Says:

And Husets runs more than one night a week. They even resist annexation so no tax dollars collected there. Look at the city map online, everything around Husets is within city limits and paying their share. I’d take a once yearly rock concert vs. 2-3 times a week races.

  7. Just ME Says:

This is a great opportunity for the city of Brandon. What the council needs to do is set guidelines of when the bands need to stop at night and how early they can start in the morning/afternoon. Setting guidelines as to parking, noise, and cleanup is what our council should be considering.

  8. anonymous Says:

Re-read the article, all of those things are included in his proposal.

  9. Anonymous Says:

I’m going to the council meeting. If you’re so interested—GO!

I meant when is the council meeting!

  14. Anonymous Says:

    Good point on Husets

  15. Alica Says:

The council meets the first and third Monday of each month, at 6 p.m. at the city council chambers, 308 Main Avenue.

So the next meeting would be March 3.

  16. anonymous Says:

    Alica,
Could you post a link to the article in question?

  18. Shellig Says:

Please please please people! I know you all think this is a great idea 9it probably is). Stop and think a second- No one I know can find one think about this promoter except for what he claims. My husband called the organizer that Mr. Leisinger claims to book act for, yet the organizer has never heard of him or him company. Something smells here!

  19. Anonymous Says:

If you are claiming that this is a fraud you are sadly mistaken. There will be a correction in the Argus and Brandoninfo.com re: Kevin Leisinger DID NOT say he was affiliated with Jazz Fest, Hot Harley Nights or LifeLight. When we proposed this to the council we said “We already have Hot Harley Nights, Jazzfest and Lifelight but not like this”. Meaning WE as in a community NOT WE AS IN Leisinger Entertainment. It was in the brochure we presented also!
In our article is states the concerts we have done which have been at the Arena, Bird cage and out of town, etc. Someone misunderstood the “WE” portion.

  20. Shellig Says:

THe only things I can find when I Google Kevin Leisinger + Brandon south dakota AND Leisinger Entertainment are:
    Kevin Leisinger Concrete
    Today’s article
    A restraining order

I have been around the music/entertainment business long enough to know that if you had anything significant to do with any big show, I would find something.

When someone is that defensive, it always smells fishy.

I think the concert is a half-baked plan, all though a good idea. Maybe someone reputable should pick it up and run with it.

    Have a good day.

  21. anonymous Says:

    #19,
“It was in the brochure we presented also!
    In our article is states”

Your post makes absolutely NO sense. Who are you? You say WE and OUR. Are you Leisinger? Please clarify.

  22. Alica Says:

When I queried “Leisinger entertainment” on yahoo, I found four sites with the same announcement: “West Central Productions, Leisinger Entertainment and SMG officials announced today that American Idol star Clay Aiken, along with a yet-to-be-determined opening act, is booked to play the Sioux Falls Arena on Friday, July 9, 2004.”

  23. Shellig Says:

I was just going to add that I found that too. He gets second billing to West Central Productions. I would like to know his level of involvement. That was 4 years ago. Anyone can dabble in trying to be a big shot promoter (Bossman Promotions) but that still doesn’t make you able to pull off an event of this size. I still want to learn more. Maybe the Argus will give us more info while they write the retraction for saying he was involved in “Hot Harley Nights, Jazzfest and Lifelight.”

  24. Anonymous Says:

Since the topic was brought up about Husets, why not have it there. they have the seating, food and beverage facilities, beer license, restroom, parking, and room for campers. How convenient.

  25. anonymous Says:

    #24,
Yuk. I don’t think a race track is the venue their going for. How about nice surroundings, shade, grass (instead of dirt) availability to the city amenities. People who go to outdoor concerts don’t sit on a dirt track or in hard bleachers, they bring their lawnchair and sit in the grass. Seriously…get out once in a while and go to a great outdoor concert to see how it’s done. The whole point is to bring something to our town. HUSETS ISN’T IN THE CITY LIMITS OF BRANDON. Probably Rubin posting that one!

  26. no way Says:

Doesn’t seem convienient to me considering it’s at least a mile out of town. Makes it harder for the people to go to Pizza Ranch, The Great Wall,Tailgators, Neighbors, the gas stations, etc.

Liesinger would’ve gone to Huset’s if he wanted Husets. He came to the city for our beautiful park. The city business’ should benefit not Husets.

    I won’t go if it’s at Huset’s.

  27. confused Says:

I don’t think noise is a major issue - it’s only 2 days. The real issues are traffic, water, garbage, restrooms, campfires, medical facilities, lighting, public safety (police and FD presence), drug and alcohol abusers and who cleans up after it’s over (and who decides it’s clean enough!). Any town can take care of 5,000 people. 50,000 could overload our facilit1es, and they don’t know how many would show up. Will they limit the number of tickets? Do they need a fence around the park to restrict access to the park? where will all this camping take place?, is the camping and parking free? are we talking RVs (self contained) or tents (need restrooms, spray for bugs, etc.)? Is Aspen park an option for overflow camping - the pool may be popular for showers? What bands has he got lined up - local or national or none? The council should know what they are signing us up for.

  28. wallywyo Says:

Actually I went to a Beach Boys concert many years ago at Husets — it worked out great. plenty of parking and a bit of a bowl like atmosphere.
Based on a thread in the Argus forums sounds like there are quite a few people wondering about who promoter is.

  29. Alica Says:

I didn’t attend the Beach Boys concert at Huset’s, but I remember it. I also remember when Willie Nelson played at Huset’s. I didn’t need to attend that one. I live about a half mile from Huset’s, and the wind must have been just right that day, because I could hear Willie plain as day from my front yard.

  30. Anonymous Says:

We need something like this in the city of Brandon. Get us on the map!

  31. captainscooby Says:

I have a few comments and questions. First off, when I read the article in the Argus I was excited about the proposal. I can’t stand lifelight and Jazzfest. I also can’t stand all the bands that nutty’s north brings in. I hope this in not the same guy that brings in those bands. Homeowner rock is the music that I like and hope the city of Brandon and Leisinger can get this thing off the ground. I’m sure the people of Detroit Lakes had concerns as well when WE fest started. Seemed to turn out pretty well. I hope the board will keep an open mind. If Mr. Leisinger has his ducks in a row I hope he is allowed to proceed with his venture. I will be following this story. As I read the other comments I have a question that maybe some others may have? Sounds like Shellig is a promoter who is jealous. She or he states that they have been around the music and entertainment business. Are they trying to sabotage Mr. Leisinger? Will Shellig show up at the next board meeting? What is wrong with his proposal? I would say that unless this person knows all the facts they should keep there computer turned off and attend in person this meeting. Rock on!

  32. Anonymous Says:

You took the words right out of my mouth. And NO Shellig is NOT bringing in the bands.

  33. Anonymous Says:

Pepper Entertainment runs the North Nutty shows. Haven’t you heard his lame radio commercials? I cant stand those shows.

  34. Community Advisor Says:

I can’t believe that anyone would be for this idea. Where in the he#$ would you put 5000 people in McHardy Park, where are you going to put all the cars? Where are you going to put all the 5000 campers in McHardy Park, where are those 5000 people going to shower, dump their garbage, go to the restrooms? Have you seen just how congested that park gets with the arts in the park? All day rock bands with alcohol, come on now, we are only asking for trouble. The neighborhood north of the park thought they were going to have problems with an enclosed restaurant, you have not seen anything yet? Get those 5000 people walking back and forth to Pizza Ranch, Sneakers and the Expressway for munchies etc…and let’s just say only 1000 of them get drunk, can the town handle 1000 drunks running around here? I think the council would be making a big mistake. Plus the promoter is a little shady; ask Minnehaha County about Mr. Leisinger see what they say? I’ll bet you change your mind.

  35. Anonymous Says:

All I can say is that if the City oks this, they better be prepared for the traffic issues, public safety, medical and everything else. Better make sure Leisinger has the insurance to cover any aspect if something bad happens. You should talk to the City of Sioux Falls about Jazz Fest, Hot Harley Nights and the County about Lifelight and the problems they have seen or had.

  36. Anonymous Says:

first I thought what a terrible idea, If it passes Im out of here that weekend. thinking about the traffic and all the people (drunks included)that would be walking around my neighborhood. but I think some people do have a good point it would bring so much money to Brandon, I could deal with that for 2 days. Granted I do live close enough I bet I could hear it, Maybe enjoy it… I think if the guy has all his ducks in a row and has insurance to cover any damages. Think about the mess sturgis has after a week of drunks hanging around.

Im always hearing buy brandon, so if we so no to this we won’t be buying brandon will we?

  37. Just wondering.... Says:

I think it is a great idea. Yes, there are some issues that need to be addressed BEFORE allowing this to proceed, but it really could be great for Brandon.

Additional cars could be parked at the HS and people could walk or be bussed to the park. Maybe the food places in town could have booths set up at the park, Marv’s could handle the garbage, port-a-potties could be brought in, it could be a tent only camping experience, etc.

All “problems” have a solution, if people are willing to think outside the box. If no one ever took a chance life would be pretty boring!

One concern though, I know the softball assn. is hosting a national tournament sometime at the end of July. There could be a HUGE number of people in Brandon for that. Not sure if it is the same weekend this concert is planned - just soemthing to look into.

  38. Just wondering.... Says:

I did some checking on baseball & softball tourneys..The national softball tourney is being hosted in Brandon 7/31-8/3/08. The baseball association is hosting the Husets tourney 7/25- 7/27/08. It will be the baseball tourney that will be at the same time as the proposed concert. The baseball tourney usually brings in at least 2-3,000 people for the weekend.

  39. 4Ever in Brandon Says:

#35 mentions the supposed problems that Sioux Falls and the county have with Jazz Fest, Hot Harley Nights and Lifelight, but every year they keep getting the licenses issued so they can come back. The city and county must be getting enough benefits out of those events to outweigh the negatives. If this guy is reputable, can post the required bonds and the city puts in place some good restrictions and requirements, why shouldn’t he be given a chance at least once?

  40. confused Says:

I was going to ask to have this as the next item to vote on, but I see it’s already there. I think the timing may be wrong and the ‘issues’ need to be resolved before the council allows it. It could be a good thing for Brandon. At least we should learn if we ever want to do it again!
I just have this vision of those little tents springing up like mushrooms all over the golf course. Rock on :) !

  41. whatever Says:

community advisor (aka city council member?)

Get a grip and a dose of reality. Who said anything about 5000 campers? You’re blowing it out of proportion. And don’t “elude” to the promoters reputation, if you’ve got credible information on him, they say it.

  42. haha Says:

Why are you people so afraid to let Brandon grow? We are no longer a small town. We are expanding. If you want to live in a small town and have deer in your backyard, and a milkman that delivers to your door, MOVE AWAY. It isn’t going to happen here. Is your glass half full or half empty. Give this a chance. If it’s a total bust then don’t do it again. If it goes off great, it could be an incredible thing for our town.

  43. Anonymous Says:

You miss 100% of the shots you dont take. This has the potential to be a very positive event for the city of Brandon. Take the shot…

  44. Anonymous Says:

    I agree with #43. #35 SUCKS!

  45. Anonymous Says:

Who says that everyone has to get drunk at these events?

  46. Just ME Says:

We have a park that is not utiliezed enough. This sounds like something great for our city. Maybe the Chamber could do something with this to promote Brandon??? Its a win win sintuation. Brandon take this and run before we have our council member offer Husets instead of the park. If Ruebin offers Husets than the proceeds done come to the city. Another conflict of Interest????

  47. Anonymous Says:

The city of Brandon could run with this and make it a big nice affair. Too bad they’re too stuffy and scared! TAKE A RISK! It is a win win situation!

  48. Anonymous Says:

Reubin will do the show if Leisinger doesnt!

  49. Shellig Says:

I would like to say first of all that people need to pay more attention to things they read- like these posts. I am not out to cause harm to Mr. Liesinger and #31 suggests. Also, I have absolutely no reason to be jealous. As a freelance journalist I was a little disapointed that Jill Meier took everthing at face value and assumed that everything Mr. Liesinger claimed was true. She is a better reporter than that. As to his claim that he has booked acts at Jazzfest, I read that and immediately knew it wasn’t true. He has since backpeddled and said he was misquoted. Jill Meier is also too good to have done that so it made it look like he was trying to puff up his credentials and got busted. I have been part of JazzFest in the past and it is a monumental undertaking, like it or not.

From the information we were given, it didn’t look like his plan was well thought out.

That and the fact that no one that I know in the entertainment industry has ever heard of him made me skeptical.

The Argus has let people blow their own horns before without checking their claims and ended up with egg on their faces (see: Aberdeen Studio Guy and Metal Joe)

  50. Anonymous Says:

So what if he has or hasnt promoted in the past, what does it matter. This is not costing the city of Brandon a dime, give him the opportunity to put it on, if it fails big deal, if it is a success it could end up being a big deal for years to come. If he was asking the city for money then it would matter, but all he wants from the city is permission.

  51. Anonymous Says:

    Shellig
You are more ignorant than I thought. Mr. Leisinger doesnt and has never “puffed up” his credentials. Jill Meier blew once sentence out of context and now you think he’s a fraud. SHE not us misunderstood. We never said we were involved with the Jazzfest, Hot Harley nights or Lifelight. We said word for word–”We have Hot Harley nights, Jazzfest and Lifelight and now it’s time for an event like this one”. What part of that DONT you get? Pretty judgemental if you ask me. Like I said before—it’s not up to YOU to check him out.

  52. Anonymous Says:

  53. Anonymous Says:

You’re raggin at the wrong person! Take a good look at the blogs!!!!!!!!!!

  54. show me Says:

Okay….everyone is dancing around some supposed “problem” with this promoter. WHAT PRECISELY IS THE PROBLEM? We can’t as a community make a decision to back this person unless WE HAVE THE FACTS. Someone please take some initiative and put it out there!!!

  55. Anonymous Says:

There is no problems with the promoter. That’s the problem. Whoever Shellig is has the problem. Get over it. This event is a positive and prosperous deal. Mr. Leisinger has done many shows in Sioux Falls but isnt a horn blower like some of you!

  56. Anonymous Says:

27 and 34 have said it all. I will hope to see all 55 +or- of you on march 3, look for me! talks cheap!

  57. Anonymous Says:

If everyone is so concerned go to the meeting on Monday.

  58. Shellig Says:

Seems like 27 & 34 have said it all and I would like to thank them for their common sense approach to having an event like this.

  59. Anonymous Says:

They do bring up good points and I’m sure that will be adressed at the meeting. Ought to be interesting.

  60. Community Advisor Says:

Why not set it up at the Big Sioux Rec Area. Showers, Camping, open fields. Get it the hell out of the city, thats for sure. I’m guessing that anyone that is for this mess has never attended the arts in the part. 500 people over crowd McHardy Park much less than the expected 3 to 5000 as the Argus quoted?

  61. Shellig Says:

Wait a minute, I thought this was such a well thought out plan. I see #60 has some of the same concerns.

By the way, no one way answered my earlier questions:

Is this the Liesinger that comes up with a restraining order against him?

    -and-

If he is such a well-known promoter (to three people), what has he done lately that I would know about?

  62. haha Says:

60 and 61 are totally in left field. Why do you even live here? Why don’t you move away and live in a bubble together where lolly pops grow on bushes and the sun shines everyday. Seriously, if you two were in charge of this town we would be taking applications to live here and only allowing people in that are BORING and like to see the negative in everything. Open your flippin eyes and accept change.

  63. always listening Says:

Sounds like our city commision acted responsible last night and denied. Mr. Lesinger did not have all his answer for the questions.

  64. Shellig Says:

Of course they acted responsibly. They did the only thing that they could do. It is a great concept but the presenter did not do enough leg work to make it look feasible. An event of this size cannot be thrown together lightly because it has the potential to impact many folks. Obviously the council did not have the confidence they needed to pass this.

#62- You wouldn’t be allowed in my town. Not because I need to live in a bubble, but because you are rude and classless.

  65. Classless in Brandon! (haha) Says:

Classless? If the definition of classless is “accepting of change, looking to the future, and wanting to be in a progressive community” then yes I am classless. I understand that if the presenter was not prepared with the correct info and such that the event should not be accepted. I am all for keeping Brandon safe but you would be foolish to say that if the organizer was prepared and ready for this event that it would be bad for Brandon. This event could have benefited this town immensely. Its ridiculous to keep shooting these things down because it “might” be a disaster. Take a leap of faith. Sincerely, Classless in Brandon

  66. Shellig Says:

Classless is attacking people and not attacking their viewpoint.
If you had bothered to read any of my posts you would know that I do not believe there is a very well thought out plan. Obviously the city council didn’t think sl either. Even the plans he did have were not very concrete. There is a lot to putting on an event like this and he didn’t do much more than scratch the surface.

Personally, I am all for the show. I enjoy huge music festivals and attend as many as possible. if this event appeals to me (acts, venue, timing, etc.) I will attend it, also.

If three different entities have stepped up to the plate to offer a better venue, then I say go for it. Maybe that will then involve others who have a better grasp on planning an event like this. Why not the Stadium? During my time there we put on a few shows and even though they are a huge pain, they went off without a hitch.

So, calm down and ridicule my points, not me. Tsk Tsk

  67. Classless in Brandon! (haha) Says:

You are correct. I should have read your previous blogs. Apparently “Is this the Liesinger that comes up with a restraining order against him?” has a lot to do with the fact that this concert was being promoted. You talk about me attacking you? We all have skeletons in our closet. I agree that you have said that you support it, very nice of you, then whynot try to help promote it and get it going?

  68. Shellig Says:

I would love nothing more than to get behind this show. There are still many unanswered questions. As I said previously, I have been involved (in different capacities) in music/entertainment for the past 15 years. I have never heard of this guy but more importantly, neither have people I know that are intimately involved in this business. I have seen enough wanna be big shots who put on a crappy event and leave others holding the bag that I am skeptical. If this is the same guy that shows up with the restraining order on him, doesn’t that say anything to his character? No one will defend that, which makes me think it is indefensible. I hope this makes more sense. :)

  69. Classless in Brandon! (haha) Says:

I could file a restraining order against anybody, does that make that person bad? I totally agree with you about most of what you are saying. However, you say this is a good idea, then get behind and it fill in the holes, especially since you have previous experience. The only way to build a better Brandon is to be proactive and come together. If I had training or experience in this type of activity I would gladly lend a hand.

  70. Shellig Says:

Sure, anyone can file a restraining order but to get a judge to grant one is a different story. That is not easy. My friend tried to get a restraining order against her ex’s estranged girlfriend. The on again/off again girlfriend was stalking her small child. The judge wouldn’t grant it! I have never had a restraining order filed against me or me against another person. I think that goes to a person’s credibility and judgement skills, don’t you? I refuse to align myself with thay type of person.

But, I may be speaking out of turn because no one has confirmed or denied that this is the same person. Until I know, I will not offer any assistance.

  71. Alica Says:

My public record research indicates that a Kevin Leisinger, likely the concert promoter, went through what I’d call a nasty divorce a few years ago. The restraining order was filed by his wife, and he countered with a civil suit.

In my personal opinion, that doesn’t mean he would be a bad concert promoter.

However, the question is moot now, since the council denied his request. It’s no longer a city issue.

  72. Staying Classy Says:

Classless, it sounds like you need a j-o-b.

  73. observations Says:

Let me preface this post by saying before the meeting I thought this concert and chosen venue was a great idea. Since the council meeting, I still think a concert at this venue is a good idea….however….I don’t believe Mr. Leisinger had everything necessary to be given the go ahead. I wasn’t impressed by his lack of professionalism in his presentation, dress, or question answering.

But. I also have observations about the city councils comments.

    1. “It will ruin the grass.” Arts in the park has a multitude of people also, and they each have a tent they stake down and heavy trailers parked on the grass. Sioux Falls successfully has Jazzfest (which is in a populated area and on grass) The catholic school system puts on Summer Jam at Great Bear (which is city owned) Both are well attended by adults and kids (yes there’s beer) I’ve attended both and they are fantastic entertainment and money makers. Our council should consider going to a real park like concert, pull up a lawn chair and have a beer.

    2. “What will keep people from turning south on the gravel road after the concert” Really…why does that matter, it’s not city property. What if people turn east out of the golf course bar (which is city owned) If our council really worried about drunk people on our city streets, we would have any bars in our town. The city could get sued when someone leaves the golf course.

    3. Karber says we’d be taking the park away from the citizens for 2 days….we already do that with arts in the park.

    4. “noise” is another problem with the council. We listen to Husets screaming cars ALL summer.

    5. WHY DID RUBIN RECUSE HIMSELF? Because he’s had concerts at his track?? He has Medstar at his track every race and a nephew who works for them and he refused to recuse himself from that vote!

    6. Why when he did recuse himself did he “lecture” the promoter and audience about why this was a bad idea.

  74. Brandondude Says:

Good comments observations #73! It seems clear the Mr. Rubin no longer belongs on the council between Husets magically being outside the city limits and the whole Medstar vote. Whether that will happen or not is up to the voters next time around.

  75. Anonymous Says:

Rubin recused himself because of a conflict of interest. He wants Leisinger Entertainment at Huset’s. He’s called him several times. You’re right– why did he comment?

  76. Anonymous Says:

MOST OF THESE BLOGS ARE CLASSLESS!

  77. anon Says:

You are exactly right 76. And most peole that are serious about this stuff don’t realize that there are people that just come on to stir the pot and get them fired up. I think it’s hilarious.

  78. Community Advisor Says:

    I see some people in Brandon still live with their heads in the sandbox. We do not have the right facilities here for a large event like that. If he is such a well known promoter then why can’t he find a place in Sioux Falls? Something sounds fishy? Well the city has spoken so no need to complain anymore. At least he could present himself a little better at a public meeting, show some class or professionalism. ; }

  79. Anon Says:

#75 Mr. Rubin does not NEED Leisinger Entertainment to plan any concerts for him at Husets. Mr. Rubin has planned his own concerts at Husets in years past.

That being said, I think it was fine that Mr. Rubin recused himself from the vote. He pretty much was in a “damned if you do, damned if you don’t situation”.

    Finally, I do think
it would be great if Mr. Rubin & Lesisinger Entertainment pair up for a summer concert, it could be a great thing for Brandon.

****#78 Do you realize that summer baseball tourneys in Brandon “handle” up to 3,000 people for a weekend? And that is at the baseball complex which is much smaller than McHardy Park. Why should we “push” this off to Sioux Falls? We are a SEPARATE community - NOT Sioux Falls.

  80. Just a thought Says:

I was there and didnt see a problem with Mr. Leisinger’s professionalism. Mr. Rubin is a businessman and if you dont think he is trying to take this show from Mr. Leisinger you’re sadly mistaken. He has many offers in the city of Sioux Falls but said McHardy park would be an excellent setting. I guess it’s our loss. Ignorance is classless #78. People shouldnt comment on things they know nothing about.

  81. dkjk Says:

continuation of this discussion is rediculous and does not say much about those of you that coutinue to beat a dead hourse.

  82. Just a thought Says:

Then why are you watching the blogs?

  83. haha Says:

Also 81, spelling ridiculous, continue and horse wrong in one sentence is just “horibell”. HaHa.

  84. Anonymous Says:

You forgot continuation at the beginning. LOL

  85. Anonymous Says:

sounds like a recipe for the three P’s (Peeing, pooping and puking) and that just the tip of the iceberg dont forget the three F’s (fighting fucking and fishing) LOCK YOUR DOORS

  86. jokes on you! Says:

I’m happy that Brandon passed on this. This event needs to be done at a venue/community that will APPRECIATE the great things this will bring. And when this event continues to grow year by year, and Brandon city council is left banging their heads on the walls of the bubble they live in, wishing they woulda taken this up, I (along with other un-classy posters here ;) ha!) will be sittin in the warm sunshine, holding a nice COLD beer, and jammin out to some good ol’ tunes!!! JOKES ON YOU, BRANDON!!

  87. Ex brandon Says:

What is Brandon so scared of? They’ve always been like that. But turning this down was a big mistake. The day will come where they’ll be sorry they passed on it. Funny thing is I can bet you see 1/2 of the town of Brandon at the concert. “NOT IN MY BACKYARD” syndrom. HA HA!

  88. observations Says:

What are they scared of? It wasn’t THEIR idea and they don’t have CONTROL.

Rubin will rush in and offer to have it at Husets (Karber already eluded to that at the meeting by saying put it outside the city limits) There’s no grass to ruin out at that dump, and also none to run your barefeet throught while sitting in your lawnchair under a shade tree. But oh wait, they totally missed the point of what a concert in the park means.

And don’t forget the city will see NO dollars if it’s out at Husets, it ISN”T in the city limits!

Do they realize that both Summer Jam and Jazz Fest are attended by whole families?? Perhaps they should go this year and see what real entertainment is all about. Get outside people!

Our council is so backwards, it’s really laughable.

  89. Ex brandon Says:

Leisinger doesnt need Brandon. From what he said he was giving them the opportunity to have it in Brandon. Rubin already confronted Leisinger and he said “NO” numerous times. That’s why he recused himself. HUMMMM let me see—-what other city coucil member is he good friends with????…..Like I said earlier—-all backwoods. You’re right #88 GET OUTSIDE ONCE IN AWHILE—AND THAT DOESNT MEAN JUST TO YOUR PLUSH GOLFCOURSE!!!!!

  90. observations Says:

What do you mean Leisinger confronted Rubin and said no?

I did some research..the camping part is the latest rage in outdoor concerts. People travel all over the country in the summer attending this type of concerts! Who’da thought?!

  91. Ex brandon Says:

No Rubin continued to confront Leisinger. I heard him at the council meeting. He kept saying no he wanted to have the concert in a grassy area w/camping etc. Ya I’ve seen all the camping concerts on the internet. I’ve attended a couple of them. I think theres one in montana that’s really nice. Where ever he (Leisinger) goes I can guarantee there will be camping. Too bad for Brandon!

  92. observations Says:

Here’s a list by state of all the camping concerts throughout the US. Some camping is sold out already for July shows.

    http://camping.about.com/cs/outdoorevents/l/blevents2.htm

  93. Ex brandon Says:

This is the site I was looking at also. Cool!

  94. Community Advisor Says:

x-brandon, im glad your a x! Why can’t liesinger provide some sort of references if he’s so great and known. Why can’t he do it at the fairgrounds, Oh maybe he had a falling out with the county also? The city has seen right through the large amount of B.S he was dishing out. Go to the Big Sioux Rec or go see Rubin, that is correct, “NOT IN THIS CITY”, now move on. This blog should be done, the city has spoken.

  95. Ex-Brandon Says:

You call Brandon a city? You’re gonna eat your words. We’ll see who laughs last. Oh and if the blog should be done—-why are you still on it? HUMMM!

  96. Alica Says:

The state of South Dakota calls Brandon a city.

  97. Sick of it all! Says:

I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion right? I think everyone needs to get a life!

  98. Shellig Says:

I am still sitting here smiling. Remember me? I started back at post 18 telling everyone that this is a great idea but this guy is a load of bunk. People proceeded to call me names and ask for my head on a platter (mostly spelled incorrectly and with poor grammar, I might add). I am glad I am not the only one who was cautious.

  99. HI Says:

Hey Shellig—I dont remember your head on a platter but what’s your bag???? Nothing like character assassination!

  100. Anon Says:

#98 I really don’t feel too sorry for you about the name calling. You are the one who started the bashing of Mr. Leisinger.

If you (or your husband) are interested in organizing a concert in Brandon - go for it. A summer concert in Brandon is a great idea. I think you wanted to bash Mr. Leisinger’s character for personal reasons.

Just for the record - I do not anything about Mr. Leisinger, his family, or his business. I just think it is wrong to bash an individual on a public forum under the veil of anonymity.

  101. Ex-Brandon Says:

You took the words right out of my mouth #100. I’ve found out who Shellig is and he’s just jealous of Mr. Leisinger and has done everything in his power to bash him in and out of the forum. Well guess what it hasnt happened and Mr. Leisinger is doing a concert so just keep your ears open. We’ll all know soon! Then Shellig can eat his words. Some peopele are so cynical. It makes me sick.

  102. Shellig Says:

First of all, #100, I am a SHE, so you obviously have no idea who I am. And, if you did I obviously am not concerned since I actually use my real name, at least part of it.

I am not bashing on Mr Leisinger. I am bashing on people who want to act like a big shot with no well thought out plan. I have worked for a couple of organizations in the past who have fallen prey to people like this and have been left holding the bag. As I have said a million times, the concert in theory is a great idea. There is a lot more to planning things like this than getting the populace rallied around you. Obviously others think so, too.

  103. Shellig Says:

Also, I would like to say that jealousy has absolutely nothing to do with my reasons for being skeptical. If you “know who I am” you would know I am a huge supporter of all kinds of music.

  104. Lovin It Says:

Hey Shellig–#100 said nothing about you not being a she! We all know who you are–no secret. Get a real life.

  105. Shellig Says:

Pardon me. It was #101. I need to get a life!?!?!?!?!?

By the way, who is we?? Are you folks French?

  106. Bizarro Says:

I just came back to this after a couple of weeks and lo and behold there are still people arguing about this! Shellig- obviously you aren’t trying to hide but you made your points. Everyone else needs to see this for what is it and get on with something more important.

  107. Lovin It Says:

We as in #1 through #106. And Bizzaro needs to read the forum again.

  108. Shellig Says:

106 people know who I am?? well, say it already. Not that it matters. I was just one person who didn’t agree with the masses. I am on to bigger and better things! :)

  109. Lovin It Says:

RIGHT!!! Really looks like it. I didnt say 106 people—I said #1 through #106. You really dont get it do you?

  110. Anon Says:

    To Shellig-

I don’t know who you are nor have I ever claimed to know. I just feel for people when “strangers” feel it is aceptable to “bash” other on a public forum. For the record, you need to refer back to your own previous posts and re-read them. You most definately did “bash” Mr. Leisinger several times.

Post #20 You googled a “Kevin Leisinger” and posted information regarding a restraining order by someone of that same name. Is it the same K. Lesisinger from Brandon? I have no clue, but you don’t know either. Why do you thnk it is acceptable to post something like that?????

Post #61 & Post #68 Again you mentioned the restraining order - still with no proof.

Post #98 Called him a “load of bunk”.

Post #102 Called him “someone who acts like a big shot”.

On multiple posts you questioned his promotional abilities. I have no clue on his abilities, but who made you the judge on his (and others) abilities?

You claim to have all kinds of “experience” promoting activites, and you might. I have no clue who you are. Just remember, there are also others out there that are capable too.

  111. Shellig Says:

By the way, it is the same Kevin Leisinger that has the restraining order. Shhhh……..

  112. Shellig Says:

By the way, anon, I NEVER claimed to have ANY experience promoting anything. I said that I have been around the entertainment industry for one reason or another for about 15 years and have been involved in organizations/companpies that have been left holding the bag. Please get your facts straight. Bash me personally all you want, even though I wasn’t placing myself in the public eye. It really doesn’t matter to me. From the outset red flags went up, as I disussed ad nauseum, and I thought folks should be aware. I’m done.

  113. Anon Says:

Shellig - Once again refer back to your own posts. On your post #66 you wrote: “Why not the Stadium? During my time there we put on a few shows……”. Sounds like you were helping to put on (promoting, organizing, however you want to words it) something.

In the same post you also wrote: “Classless is attacking people and not attacking their viewpoint”. So, according to your own words you are also classless. Your definition, not mine…..

Those would be some facts, maybe you need to get them straight!

  114. Anon Says:

PS. Shellig….My definition of classless would be summed up by your #111 post. I hope you feel good about yourself posting something like that. One never knows the entire story, do they……..

  115. Lovin It Says:

DIDDO Anon! I happen to know who Shellig is and everything that is spewed out of her mouth is classless and exaggerated. So much for her not returning to this forum anymore. I can guarantee she’ll be “lerkin”. She really shouldnt be speaking about something she knows nothing about.

  116. Community Advisor Says:

    THIS IS AWSOME BETTER THAN WHEN T-O-P-P-L-E AND I WAS IN IT! KEEP UP THE ENTERTAINMENT. ; }

  117. shellig Says:

Well, I guess Lovin It knows everything. What was I thinking?!

  118. Lovin It Says:

I can admit when I don’t know something and I can admit when I do. AND I DO on this matter. Still LOVIN IT!!!

  119. Classy Says:

You are fun to read Shellig. But I still don’t understand what Leisinger having a restraining order has anything to do with him promoting this concert. And for all of the others, rather than just throw out empty threats whynot just out shellig so people know who it is.

  120. Used to live in Brandon Says:

Shellig is a hoot to read huh? She obviously didnt read the whole restraining order situation on the internet and like you said what’s that got to do with him doing a concert? Brandon’s loss cuz Sioux Falls is gonna reap the benefits. Wait til this summer.

  121. Classy Says:

    http://www.sdjudicial.com/index.asp?category=opinions&nav=5378&year=2002&month=8&record=1014

here is the actual document of the court case in which he is given the restraining order. It looks like typical divorce proceedings and bitter feelings. Give me a break Shellig if we should hold it against him. That is foolish. Maybe if he were actually doing something wrong we should go after his character. GROW UP!!

  122. Anonymous Says:

his wife seems like a wack job!

  123. Rock Dude Says:

So I hear that “Dakota Rock Fest” is a go with LA Guns, Bang Tango and Faster Pussycat. It’s going to be on July 26th at Hussets?

    Right on!

  124. Bizarro Says:

I did not see a location but the town listed was Sioux Falls. Don’t forget that Skid Row is also on the line-up. The site that I found had good forums and not many people were impressed because each band only has a couple of original members. I will keep my eyes peeled but I think we deserve a better show than this!

  125. Anonymous Says:

I heard it was at the sioux empire grounds behind where the sioux empire fair is. Screw Husets man. Boy it sure takes alot to impress people now days. Why cant people just be happy to have some entertainment around this boring town??? HELLLLOOOO!!!!

  126. Bizarro Says:

Sorry for you but I guess I am not that bored. I love good or even marginal rock shows but that have to not be cheesy. Also, I don’t think this is at the fair. My guess is it will be at the Oaks or Ramkota.

  127. Anonymous Says:

Look on pollstar “BIZARRO”. If you’re that much in the loop you wouldve already seen it. You must be bored to continue this forum.

  128. Bizarro Says:

    You’re still here. :)

  129. Bizarro Says:

Also, anonymous (AKA mr. negativity) I though Rock Dude and I were trying to find some valuable information so folks that wanted to plan on attending could do so. I do not know where the festival grounds are since there are three places called that: the area by the SE fairgrounds, the north parking lot at the Arena and the place where Lifelight is held. Since you seem to know more that the rest of us, let us in so we can plan on attending. Like I said, I enjoy a marginal rock show!

  130. Anonymous Says:

FYI–I’m not a guy! Find it yourself—Mr. Leisinger did. They dont need people like you there anyway. And BTW—Lifelight is held at wild water west. If you dont know that your clueless. Ever been to the Ribfest? I wouldnt call that a festival. Obviously you’ve never been to a “festival”.
You know people who dont know music should let people who do handle it.

  131. shellig Says:

Wow, you are an extremely negative person. What I did was google “festival grounds” and those were the places that came up. I know where these event are held, you don’t need to be insulting. I am just trying to find out for folks who want to attend the event. There is no place that I can think of that is actually named Festival Grounds. Thanks to anti-ambassadors like yourself, I think I will pass on the event.

  132. shellig Says:

By the way, I went back to my real name because I find it is so much easier for people to be rude and condescending when they are “anonymous.” Stand up people and be recognized! We all have opinions, it is the people who can’t respect that that should just be ignored.

  133. Anonymous Says:

So why do you have 2 names? Or maybe more? I shouldve figured. If you want to be up on music check Pollstar. I’m a very optimistic person unlike you. I dont understand why you think I’m negative? You can wait to find out more info once it’s announced just like everyone else. For someone who’s not interested you sure seem like you are. Maybe your in denial?

  134. Rock Dude Says:

Kevin, I think it’s time to reign in your girlfriend “Anonymous”. Bagging on other successful area events and potential customers only diminishes your credibility, which to some is questionable at this point anyway. I certainly would want a more professional spokesperson for my organization.

  135. Anonymous Says:

You are soooo off your rocker. Accept it—you have no clue what you’re talking about but go ahead and be ignorant. I do not know Mr. Leisinger but the word is out as to where it is. Like I said if you’re such a wiz at “Googling” than do it right.
BTW–I wasnt digging on the other events. I just asked you if you’ve ever been to the ribfest. A festival to me is not on asphalt but grass such as the Jazz Fest. Key word “Fest”.
You know you say “bagging” on other events etc is nonsense—then dont do it yourself. Have a little class!

  136. Shelli Says:

Wow, I owe you a HUGE apology. Anyone who spews so much hate and venom obviously has something terrible going on in her life. I knew the event was going on and thought it would be fun to use my resources to find out about it. Obviously many people that were posting here cared about the show. Now I see that is was more than you could handle, given your delicate state, and I am so sorry I upset you. I hope your doctor can give you a two-day pass so you can attend the show. Shelli

  137. Anonymous Says:

I thought your screen name was Shellig? Hummmmm? Shelli??? As I said earlier—have a little just a little class. You need to look in the mirror when it comes to view on hatred. I dont have to have my doc give me a pass I am a doc!

  138. Rock Dude Says:

In the interest of humanity I hope you are a pet doctor.

  139. Anonymous Says:

Nice comeback Rock Dude. Back to the subject at hand. All slams aside—-I’m sure the concert will be good for those who like that kind of music. Like Shellig said earlier–everyone is entitled to their opinion. It takes all kinds to make this world work–right? Can we agree on that?

  140. Rock Dude Says:

That’s the most sensible thing you’ve said… in my opinion.

  141. Anonymous Says:

    Thank you…
