Check out a live blog this afternoon on www.argusleader.com. The state is trying to make Roger Hunt reveal where he got $750,000 that went to the Vote Yes For Life group before the 2005 vote on abortion bans.
Roger says the law doesn’t require him to tell where he got the money, or rather, where a corporation called Promising Future Inc. got the money. Roger created the corporation. Secretary of State Chris Nelson thinks Roger should reveal the source of the money, so he filed suit against Roger, who is a Brandon lawyer.
A 90-minute hearing is set for 1:30 p.m. today at the Minnehaha County Courthouse. Chuck Baldwin of the Argus Leader will attend the hearing and post continuous blog entries on the Argus Web site as the hearing progresses. You can post your comments and questions on the site during the live blog.

Roger Hunt is entitled to his opinion regarding this situation, as am I; so here is mine. Mr. Hunt has said that he established this phoney investment company solely for the purpose of accepting this particular donation from this particular doner. The court will decide that. My opinion is that Mr. Hunt is nothing more than a lying, deceitful coward who doesn’t have the courage or conviction to be honest with the people that elected him. If Mr. Hunt chooses to run for the state legislature ever again, I hope that the citizens of District 10 remember how dishonest he is and resoundly vote him out of office.

What possible reasons could Roger Hunt have for not revealing the source of the money?
Publicly, his reasons have been A) the law doesn’t (didn’t) require it; and B) the donor is worried about violent retribution.
Do you think those are the real reasons? The only reasons?
What other possibilities can you think of?

Funny thing about secrets, even if you didn’t do anything wrong, it looks as if you did.
