Sioux Empire Fair

Do you plan to attend the Sioux Empire Fair this week? If so, what parts do you consider “must see?”
I was in 4-H when I was young, so I entered vegetables, baked goods and crafts every year. When I was a young adult, I earned many ribbons in the Homemaker building. Once I got a best of show for my apple butter, and once I got a best of show for my dill pickles. I have all my ribbons in a shoebox in my closet.
Of course the kids like the midway. I always liked the rides where you go upside down. But I haven’t been on a ride now in many years.
Do you take in the grandstand events? Do you like to bring home freebies from the booths in the Expo building?

My daughter and I have entered items in open class the last three years. We do photography, baked goods, arts and crafts and horticulture. We love it! We look forward to the fair every year. My daughter has won best of show for photography in the junior division two years in a row now. This year I talked up the fair so much my boss’ daughter entered her drawings and jewelry. They’re now going to enter stuff next year too. It just makes the fair more fun when you’re involved.

I agree. My favorite part of the fair was to walk around and see what ribbons I got. And sometimes I would get enough prize money to pay for my trip to the fair. Free funnel cakes. Yum.

Off topic but I wanted to say how neat the petting zoo was in the Sunshine parking lot. We took our kids their last night and they had a blast! It was really fun for our family. All the animals would eat right out of your hand.
Thank you for whoever was responible or involved in getting the petting zoo in Brandon. I think they should come every year!
Oh, and Yes, we plan on attending the fair with our kids.
