Speed sign

A new sign has appeared on West Holly Boulevard, near The Bluffs. It tells eastbound traffic how fast they are going. The speed limit at the sign is 45 miles per hour. Have you caught yourself going faster than that?
Some people might think the sign is pretty dandy as a way to check their speed, and a great reminder. Others might think the sign nags them.
What are your thoughts?

This comment does not belong here, but I don’t have any other entry to comment on. It involves the city council raising water rates for a new water tower. They did that once, the last time they instituted the new water rate method along with a HUGE increase in building permits. It was specified that it was to raise 1 mil for a new tower that would be needed on the north side of Brandon. I can’t tell you when it was exactly nor the original language of the ordinance because if you question the council and it’s records, they will tell you that was not the intent of the increase at all. Somehow the language got changed when it was decided to divert that money to other sources. It was asked specifically at the meeting at which it was introduced and passed if and when the money was enough to purchase a new tower, would the fund be stopped and the rates lowered. The reply was yes, when it was determined a tower could be purchased for a given amount, the increased monies would be stopped. Now they are going to do it again and the rates, that were supposed to be dropped will be raised once more. Oh-building permit fees have also been increased. If you are interested, ask for verification at the next council meeting.

I think the speed indicator is a good thing. Many people just keep going 55 all the way into Brandon. Annoying when they are “riding your bumper” too closely. The tailgaters are also unnerving when someone wants to turn into a development out there and they are right on your bumper.
Thanks to the city/county for putting this speed sign up.

Since the radar is clocking you BEFORE you get into the 45 mph zone, you could be going 55 mph and not be speeding. I agree, Good Deal, too many people think that if the speed limit is 45 it means they can go 50 or 55. I am tired of people who ride my bumper, or even pass me, in that stretch when I am going 45.

I agree that the speed limit sign serves a purpose and maybe will put our police back on patrolling versus sitting on Holly running radar at 4:30 in the morning. However, I feel that if the city can afford to run the speed limit sign, post fancy lighted welcome signs on the four corners of town, and paint its police cars black and white, maybe we can afford water improvements without raising rates. It’s a matter of priorities to me.

It always catches me going faster than that, only when there’s hardly any traffic on the road ahead of me. But then again I try NOT to travel on Rice Street/Holly Blvd., ever.
