Traffic on Holly

July 2nd, 2007 by Alica

How are you all holding up with part of Holly Boulevard closed? When I come out of the grocery store parking lot, for example, I automatically turn onto Holly before I remember that I can’t get to Aspen Boulevard from there. It’s ok, though, because I can go down 7th Avenue to Aspen Boulevard and get to my house in Richland Park that way. But I’m surprised that I forgot so often.

And even though I can get through the intersection at Holly and Sioux Boulevards, my husband wants me to go to Sioux Falls by way of Highway 11 and then Madison, so I won’t have to drive over any dirt or gravel. Keeps the car cleaner, he says.

What alternate routes have you taken to keep out of the way of the construction?

I am on 7th, so, feel like I am in the midst of construction. I normally take 11 and then Madison also.

I don’t know why the detour doesn’t go all the way down to Aspen and then back over to Sioux. There are too many turns to get to 1st.

Yeah, I’m also curious about the detour through the Terraces (Fourth through Seventh avenues). So many turns — South. West. South. West. It’d be a couple extra blocks out of the way to go all the way down to Aspen and over, but that’s ok with me. Seems odd to route all the Holly Boulevard traffic through the residential areas.

The City representatives decided on the route. Their reasoning is this is the shortest route around the project. Detouring traffic down to Aspen would take away traffic from the businesses on Holly between 1st and Sioux.
