Trick or Treat

October 28th, 2008 by Alica

When my daughter was little, she always preferred staying home and handing out candy rather than going trick or treating herself. I thought that was a little odd, but I don’t think she missed out on any candy. I usually bought plenty.

Back then, we got lots of trick or treaters at our house. These days, not so many. Most of the kids on our block have grown up, and I think a lot of kids go to the Halloween party at the fire hall instead of walking around door to door.

Do your children trick or treat in your neighborhood? Do you go to other neighborhoods to trick or treat? We used to take the kids to their grandparents’ houses when they were toddlers. One year I dressed my daughter as a bunny. She was so cute.

Do you take your children to the Halloween party at the fire hall? Or do you have a party at someone’s house in your neighborhood or at your church? How has Halloween changed since you were a kid?

We have Trunk or Treat at our church where several families get together at the church building, park their cars in the parking lot, open up the trunks of their cars, and kids come around to each car to Trunk-or-Treat instead of going house to house to Trick-or-Treat. Seems to work out well.

And I still would rather hand out candy than go door to door (it’s warmer that way :D ), but not many people have ever come by my house out in the sticks.

We also live way out in the country and don’t get anyone by us. We take our kids around in Brandon though down a few neighborhoods that we’re familiar with. My kids are pretty little still (4& 2) so they don’t need much. Heck, they don’t even eat the candy they get!

My son is pretty young yet for trick or treating, but he loved playing the games at the Halloween party at the fire hall. I think he also enjoyed all the costumes that were there, and with almost 500 kids coming through the fire hall he was able to stay pretty entertained.

To #3: I’m glad you and your son enjoyed the event.

To all: You can see a picture of Bill and his young son, who portrayed the Jolly Green Giant, on brandoninfo.com in the photo gallery.
