Vote today

April 8th, 2008 by Alica

The polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at the council chambers, 208 Main Ave., next to City Hall.

If you live in Ward I or Ward III, go vote today. If you live in Ward II, don’t worry about it. You’ll vote next year. If you don’t know what ward you’re in, you can find out on the city’s Web site, www.brandonsd.com. Or call City Hall at 582-6515.

Ward I residents will decide between (listed alphabetically) Blaine Jones and John Saarloos. Ward III residents will decide between Roger Brooks and Steve Rubin.

Any last minute thoughts on the candidates? Who is your choice, and why (or why not)? Once you’ve been down to the polls, post your thoughts here. How did the turnout look to you? Did you see or hear anything about which you think others here should know?

So far, turnout at today’s city election has been dismal at best.

As of 11:30 a.m., 59 people had voted in Ward I, out of 1,763 registered voters, for 3.3 percent.

Ward III is doing a little better, with 86 people voting by 11:30 a.m. That’s out of 1,488 registered voters, for a 5.7 percent turnout.

I realize a lot of people aren’t in the city during the day, so i’m guessing - hoping - the numbers shoot way up once 5 p.m. rolls around.

However, if you are in the city today, take a break and head down to the city council chambers to vote.

As of 3:45 p.m., 90 people had voted in Ward I and 144 people had voted in Ward III, according to City Hall.

That’s 5.1 percent turnout for Ward I and 9.7 percent for Ward III.

You still have until 7 p.m. to make it over to the city council chambers to cast your vote.

I voted at 7:30 this morning. I was the only car parked out front - nice to get a space without trying, but I was expecting more people there. Hopefully the turn out after work was better. When will the results be published?
