Weddings

My son is getting married next week. I hope everything goes smoothly at the wedding. There’s no reason to think it won’t, but in any situation, things don’t always go as planned.
I remember at my wedding (back when I was just a pup of 18 years), the pastor was supposed to hit the “on” switch on my cassette tape recorder at the top of the service. We’d hidden it under the pulpit so it could pick up the sound. This was back in 1975, before all the cool electronics we have now. Anyway, the pastor almost forgot. Luckily, he turned it on after I whispered to him about it.
Our “friends” totally filled our car with wadded up newspapers. Later, when we were emptying the car into a dumpster, my new husband’s new wedding ring flew off his finger. He had to get into the dumpster and empty it out before he found the ring.
Of course there are a lot of amusing memories also, like when the groom and groomsmen posed for a picture before the service. They were supposed to be checking their watches, anticipating the wedding. Well, out of three of them, only one was wearing a watch. I still chuckle when I think of that picture.
Have you had mishaps or other, special memories of your wedding or any that you’ve attended? We can always use a good anecdote, so please share. Thanks.

Contrats you all on the upcoming nuptials!!! Relax and have fun.
My husband and I got married in January, 1977. VERY cold day. He jokes and said it would be a cold day in H… when he got married and it was. Anyway the morning after the wedding, my cousin called us because he couldn’t get his car started at the motel they were staying at. So off we went to help them out.
We didn’t take a “honeymoon”, but probably should have kept that to ourselves. The wedding was nice and simple. Some of the people that were to work the reception couldn’t make it due to the weather, so we had to do some last minute recruiting. But, all in all, it went well.
Fun post!! Brings back memories of other weddings and the “things” that can happen.
But, remember…it’s not the wedding, but the marriage!!
Have a great time!

Ok, I thought I checked for spelling…
Obviously, I meant, “Congrats to you all on the upcoming nuptials.”
Guess I got excited!!

#1 is correct — its not the wedding…I remember a wedding where we used rice to fill the vents in a car. I think they sold the car w/some rice still in it. Another time we used peanut butter & honey. That was totally gross, but the couple got a good laugh. I’ve had friends come home from their wedding night to find that all the labels had been removed from their canned goods, and the rooms had been re-arranged. Now, that was funny…

My husband and I where married by a justice of the peace. Since both of us where working in law enforcement in some capacity or another we decided to make that our theme. We a pre-trial before the actual ceremony. All the plans where done secretly the only people whole knew what was in store for them was the judge and my mother in law. Needless to say when my husband was “escorted” into the court room for the “trial” in county orange you can hear the moment of stunned silence prior to the laughter breaking out. I presented my prosecuting evidence and he gave a rebuttal as to why he stole my heart. The Judge left the court room and went to his chambers to think upon the charges that where brought before him. The defendant was taken away and returned in him tux and the judge performed the ceremony and when he gave sentence to “life” of matrimony and we where handcuffed together by the best man. a bit of advice to all your future groom’s out there….trying to make it a football theme does not get you out of helping in the planning and prepping of the wedding. I just used that as part of our theme also. Our colors where purple and gold (back when Vikings where worth something) my husband’s vest was covered with Viking helmets and when it came to his part in the “do you” part of the ceremony him and his groomsmen went into a huddle talked about nothing for a couple of minutes and then he came back with the an “I do” Everyone had a really good time and commented on how fun the wedding was and how much everyone enjoyed it

That’s a great story, karmen. My son and his bride chose Darth Vader’s theme music for their wedding recessional. It was quite a surprise when that music started playing.

What a clever idea Carmen!! Sounds like a lot of pre-planning went into that.
Darth Vader music…cool!! I hope you had a great weekend.
Alica, I hope the wedding went well!!
