Wind power

A company that promises 150 new jobs will start dirt work in the Corson Industrial Park in June.
Broadwind Energy, Inc., announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Tower Tech Systems, will expand its wind tower manufacturing operations to Brandon. Dennis Olson, Brandon city administrator, said the company builds the posts that the big wind turbine blades sit atop.
Once it’s up and running, the company would slide into the top five employers in the city. The company will need for supervisors, quality technicians and maintenance technicians, welders, assemblers and technicians, and some skilled laborers.
Do you think the company will provide employment opportunities for people who already live in Brandon, or do you think people will move here to work there? Are you interested in working for this company?
Do you think this kind of business will help Brandon’s economy? Why or why not?

hopefully it won’t turn into something like the Pipestone, MN Suzlon plant (granted, they make the wind blades and not the posts). it hasn’t done anything for their economy and they have to ship people by bus from Worthington and Sioux Falls in order to have enough workers.

It all should be a GREAT thing for Brandon!

If I did not have to travel to Sioux Falls for a decent paying job more of my income would stay in Brandon versus helping out the Sioux Falls economy.

It really depends on what they pay. You can’t buy a new house in Brandon if the top earner makes 15 an hour. The long term plan always calls for affordable housing to provide labor for the businesses (I guess that means apratments).
